she arrived like a fast, furious snow squall ☃️ no time to slow down, look up, or even think. days blurred together and somehow moved faster than ever before.

once everything settled and i looked back, it was beautiful. a month full of love, togetherness, friendship, birthdays, celebrations, family, and dirty martinis 🍸

It doesn’t feel real that you’re turning six. It feels like you’re still my little chunky baby girl and also you’re my 16 year old teenager wrapped in to one.

Your hands and feet are still small but your words and thoughts are getting so big. You are so fun, so creative, so loving, so silly, so thoughtful, so helpful, such a hard worker and so smart. You love music, you radiate joy, you are such a kind and caring friend, sister, daughter.

You are so wonderful.

july is the best month + this year was no different.

✨ simple pleasures like baby slippers and water-splash smiley faces and rainbows
✨ jazz in the *living room picnic dinners

really soaking in summer as much as possible + loving every minute with good food + good people ♥️

june was a vibe ✨

it’s 🦀 szn + i’m living my best life over here by living out experiences >>>>> everything

june was filled with community, live music, celebrating friend’s birthday’s, friends bringing surprise vegan/gf brownies the day you need one the most, live animals (at the zoo + in the wild), work milestones, baseball, mini golf achievements (hole in one + winning 😏), beaches, sunshine, sweat, reflection, learnings, prayer, and gratitude… so much gratitude.

i realize there is still one day left for the magic of june to shine tomorrow 💛 but i’m so content, so thankful, so grateful for all it brought.

Core Memory Unlocked 😻

Last week we welcomed a new member in to our family, Monty.

It’s been three years and some change since we said goodbye to our angel baby Pumbaa. We’ve been thinking about a new pet for many months now and we finally felt ready to make it official.

With my Grandpa’s passing this year, I knew I wanted to adopt from in his honor. He was lovingly known as ‘Captain Ron’ at HAWS after nearly 30 years of service to the organization.

Watching the kids eyes light up as we went through the process of visiting the shelter, initially meeting the kitten, and then getting to bring him home was so special. And to have a pet in our home again is magical, especially during the holidays ♥️

Monty, we’re so thankful for you! Welcome to team Bates 🫶🏼

Malcolm, you are the sweetest little boy. Truly, the sweetest boy. You love to laugh and dance, you love playing all sports, love kitties and puppies, and LOVE bananas 😂

You’re a great snuggler who curls right into the nook of my arm, you rub sissy’s backs when they are crying, and you’re finally saying “I love you” back to me 😍

I’m so thankful God brought you to us. Your adorable smile, bent-over-laughing giggles, sweet “thank yews” and “peeeeez” vocabulary, and love for all things life are exactly what we needed in our hearts and home.
