Safe Dates

Safe Dates Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people are at a higher risk of relationship and dating violence than their heterosexual peers.

Safe Dates helps young people recognize the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships and equips them with skills and resources to respond to dating violence in their lives or those of their friends. Safe Dates addresses this health disparity through a dating abuse curriculum tailored to the unique needs of LGBT young people. The Safe Dates program helps young people recognize the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships and equips them with skills and resources to respond to dating violence in their lives or those of their friends. The curriculum covers topics such as positive communication, anger management, and conflict resolution. In addition to the Safe Dates curriculum, this project also employs Youth Health Promoters to recruit program participants and to spread messages about intimate partner violence to the community. The campaign uses social marketing to spread the messages more widely.
