Norovirus update: I think the full strength feed overnight was too much for Tennison's belly because he woke up with diarrhea. For his lunch feed I ended up splitting half with pedialyte and that seemed to help his belly.

In other news:
While at dinner tonight Tennison asked to sit up at the island and join us to eat. Even grabbing a plate and tortilla shell, chips, and water. I quickly found him licking all the seasoning off the chips and chugging his water like a champ.

For those who do not know: Tennison was intubated most of his infancy and never developed his suck/ swallow reflux, also Tennison's anatomy played a role in his ability to eat orally. When Tennison was just over 2 years old he had a gastric transposition which placed his stomach behind his left lung and heart. A part of his esophagus was branched and connected to his stomach to allow him the ability to eat typically. Tennison has been involved in feeding therapy for some time in addition to tons of practice at home. Mustard has always been the go to, favorable food. Lately, Tennison has been trying food pouches with strawberries and oats. We try and offer as much as possible to provide opportunity. Usually he doesn't bother too much but today, today, my heart is happy and he was so proud. Thankful for these celebrations! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

What a roller-coaster of a week.
Tennison went to the local ED Monday night. We thought we could manage hydration at home, that failed.
After much diarrhea and loss of more fluids Wednesday morning Tenn and I headed to Children's and he was admitted.
Tennison had Norovirus. He was on IV fluids in addition to feed and pedialyte with no urine or bowel output. After a day his IV infiltrated. A second IV was placed and immediately infiltrated. Tennison has limited real-estate for IV insertion. His rate for his fluids was ultimately increased to attempt for more fluids quicker through his Jtube. He then complained of discomfort in his belly. He also had a bad headache for a while. In addition he had 2 nights with no urine or bowel output.
Today though, he drank water from a cup, was up and moving, had his pedialyte-feed mix, plus his afternoon feed, all at his normal rate AND had good urine and bowel output!! That's what I was waiting on. Around 4pm the Dr. approached and we discussed going home and that's just what we did πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Update 4/30: his stool was sent to lab yesterday and confirmed for the Norovirus

Tennison was admitted this morning for dehydration. It has been a long few days. He has had severe diarrhea (some GI bug) which has led to the dehydration. Thankfully he says he is not in any pain. Please continue thoughts and prayers for him. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™.

Currently at the local ED. Tennison is getting fluids as we felt we were unable to keep up at home with just pedialyte. So far he has had a chest xray and blood work drawn. No results yet. Right now he is thankfully sleeping. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Update 1:45 AM: we are home and just settled in. Tenn received IV fluids which seemed to help quite a bit. We still needs to give pedialyte at home for the next 24 hrs to stay up on fluids. Attempting to avoid a hospital stay however, if we are unable to maintain he will need to be admitted.
His urine labs showed severe dehydration which was caused due to his GI bug. Thankfully no diarrhea in the last 6 plus hours!! And he finally went p*e!!
His blood work came back reflecting as it should. His chest xray shows he may have the start of a viral infection. Respitory pannel was negative for COVID-19, flu, and RSV.
Thank you all for your continued prayers, thoughts, and love. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

As my friend and I are preparing a proposal for a potential speaking opportunity at a conference, I’ve been reflecting on the 'why' behind it. My son Tennison’s life began with a medical prognosis that gave him no chance of survival. Born six weeks early, he spent his first months fighting for every breath. Today, he is a joyful six-year-old and a living testament to hope. Moving Mountains. Witnessing his journey from a fragile newborn to a thriving child has redefined my understanding of purpose and belonging. It is this spirit of resilience and gratitude that my friend and I are so excited to potentially share with the community.

Much fun today!! Tenn loves CEC and of course time with his friends. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
