Dear friends of the humanities,

On April 2 the LEH, along with all other state and jurisdictional humanities councils, was notified that its general operating grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities was being cancelled, effectively immediately. This means that LEH will not receive $600,000 in funding this fiscal year to support the cultural and educational initiatives that deeply matter to you and so many across our state.

What does this mean for Louisiana?

LEH redistributes federal dollars to cultural organizations across the state—like your local museum, historic site, library, and more—to support festivals and educational programs that engage hundreds of thousands of people with our state’s history and culture each year. Without these funds Louisiana’s cultural economy will suffer.

The Institute for Louisiana History and Culture trains hundreds of teachers and provides Louisiana history resources to over 100,000 K-12 students. Without these funds students and teachers will have fewer resources.

64 Parishes magazine and the 64Parishes.org encyclopedia share Louisiana history and culture with people around the world (220 countries, in fact!). Without these funds fewer Louisiana stories will be told.

What can I do?

Contact your representatives and ask your network to do the same. Remind them of the impact of LEH’s work in your community and urge them to stand up in support of LEH and state humanities councils across the nation.

Sheppard St is barricaded for damage to power lines near Minden Animal Clinic. In front of the clinic is safe. You can go around the barricade if you have an appointment.

Rumor is that Minden Pediatrics is closing shop. That is far from the truth! The truth is that our lab will no longer be Minden Medical Center effective 02/28/2025. We have zero authority to fire anyone associated with MMC nor was it our decision to lose Mrs. Beverly after all her years here loving on our patients.

That being said, Dr. Ulich says that this past year has been the best year of his 19 years of practice in Minden and plans to continue providing care here. He looks forward to providing more specialty care in the future.

We appreciate our patients and will continue to be here for their care.

Preventative health is something that we at Minden Pediatrics take very seriously. It has been a long standing policy of ours that our patients must be established and up-to-date on their wellness exams before we will provide immunizations.
