Today, members attended the funeral of BSO Officer Sean Ledwith to honor his sacrifice as a dedicated Officer and Marine Corps Veteran, as well as a devoted father and husband.

We also want to thank Rockville Centre PD and Malverne PD for their assistance the past few days.

The Nassau County PBA regrets to announce the passing of Active Police Officer Sean Ledwith of the Bureau of Special Operations (BSO). Officer Ledwith served honorably for 12 years in the Nassau County Police Department and was also a decorated United States Marine who served multiple tours overseas. Please keep Officer Ledwith’s family, friends, and BSO brothers and sisters in your prayers.

Nassau PBA Financial Secretary James Shanahan and Law Enforcement Officers Weekend paid a visit to Nassau Police Officers Michael Hyland and Luiggi Bunay this past weekend. This Nonprofit Organization provides support to families of Law Enforcement Officers going through tough times and goes a long way to help lifting spirits! We can’t thank everyone involved enough for remembering our Officers!

Yesterday was a great day in the fight to improve the Mental Health of Police Officers in New York. Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Lt. Joseph Banish Mental Health Bill into Law providing important provisions including the confidentiality of Peer Support.

This bill has been fought for by PBA President Tommy Shevlin and James Banish of NYLEAP for many years and they were both honored to be in attendance for its signing and give remarks.

Thank you to the Bill's Sponsors Senator James Skoufis and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin and former Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti who first sponsored the bill. Thanks as well to the Police Conference of New York for their work.

And thank you to Governor Hochul for allowing President Shevlin to explain the details of this bill and how important it can be for officers and their families as well as the Senate and Assembly for unanimously signing it into law!

This week, Officers from the 4th Precinct collected over $1,000 for Toys for Tots and purchased toys for those in need during the Holidays!

Marty Walcoe, CEO of David Lerner Associates along with Mike Polansky, President of the Long Island Police Crisis Foundation raise money every year by hosting various events including the Long Island Police Appreciation Run to support Police Officers that are in need of assistance.

Today, they presented Suzanne Hyland with a generous check donation for Officer Mike Hyland as he goes through a vigorous rehab to recover from his brutal injuries. A special thank you to Assistant Director of the Police Run Ellen Greenspan and Coordinator of Volunteers Mindy Davidson.
