We recently received a Facebook post regarding our oxygen practices. Due to federal regulations, we require current prescriptions for oxygen within the doctor-specified timeframe for continued patient use. We do not set the rules for these types of prescriptions.
When patients are unresponsive, refuse equipment checks, and decline requalification after prescription expiration, Texas law necessitates equipment retrieval. They no longer have a valid prescription for oxygen.
Although we attempt to assist families in resolving these situations long befoe the expiration date (6 months) we can not help transporting patients to medical appointments. This is the patient's and/or family members' responsibility to renew oxygen requirements as required by Federal law and Medicare/Private Insurance.
Please be aware that federally regulated equipment requiring prescriptions as with oxygen is subject to specific regulations.
If you have any questions about this please call our office anytime and we will help you resolve any issues you currently are having.
