February is American Heart Month, a time to raise awareness about heart health and prevention.

February 6 is National Wear Red Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women. By wearing red, we show our support for women’s heart health and promote healthy lifestyle changes.

At PPGH, heart health matters to us. Our Heart Center is here to care for our community with compassionate, high-quality cardiovascular services—close to home.❤️

This week, February 2–8, is Peri-Anesthesia Nurse Awareness Week (PANAW)—a time to recognize and celebrate our incredible Pre-Assessment, Pre-Operative, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurses who play a vital role in every surgical journey.

Peri-Anesthesia nursing requires a unique blend of skill and compassion, including:
• Advanced assessment skills
• Rapid critical thinking
• Expert pain and airway management
• Strong patient advocacy
• Calm leadership in high-acuity moments

Before surgery, our nurses help set the tone for each patient’s experience by preparing, educating, and ensuring readiness—while coordinating closely with the care team to promote safety and optimal outcomes.

In the PACU, they guide patients through some of the most critical moments of recovery. From monitoring breathing and circulation to managing pain and nausea, our nurses provide expert care and a reassuring presence right at the bedside.

Peri-Anesthesia nurses are true experts in vigilance, critical thinking, and compassion, caring for patients when they are often at their most vulnerable.

Thank you to our Pre-Assessment, Pre-Operative, Operating Room, and PACU nurses for your dedication, expertise, and commitment to safe surgical care—today and every day.💚

The first week of February, we proudly celebrate Patient Care Technician (PCT) Week and recognize the incredible impact our PCTs make every single day.✨

Our PCTs are often the first friendly faces our patients see, welcoming them into the Day Surgery Department with compassion and reassurance. From the moment a patient arrives, they’re there to help—es**rting patients to day surgery, placing them on monitors, obtaining vital signs, assisting with changing and comfort, and safely transporting patients to other departments as needed.

Their care continues through discharge, where they help disconnect monitors, assist with transfers, and es**rt patients to their vehicles—ensuring a smooth, supportive end to the patient experience.

Behind the scenes, our PCTs also play a vital role in keeping our environment clean, organized, and running efficiently, helping the Day Surgery team deliver safe, high-quality care.

Our PCTs are compassionate, dependable, and absolutely essential. We are so thankful for everything you do!💚

It’s Groundhog Day, and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow.
Six more weeks of winter… and flu season is clearly tagging along.

Texas is still seeing very high flu activity, and we’re continuing to see flu cases right here in our community. If winter insists on sticking around, now’s the time to protect yourself.

The good news? You can get your flu shot at several PPGH locations:

• Community Care Center
• PPGH Urgent Care
• Mineral Wells Family Health
• Possum Kingdom Family Health
• Santo Family Health
• Gordon Family Health

Addresses and phone numbers for each location can be found here: https://www.ppgh.com/locations/

Six more weeks of winter doesn’t have to mean six more weeks of the flu. Get your flu shot today.

*UPDATE*

We’re finally seeing some improvement in road conditions. To allow a little extra time for things to thaw and for safer travel, all clinic locations will open at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, except Santo Family Health and Possum Kingdom Family Health, which will remain closed.

This delayed opening is to help ensure our staff and patients can get to and from their appointments safely.

As always, if you need emergency care, the ER is open 24/7. Please continue to use caution on the roads, and thank you for your patience as we work through this winter weather together.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
