I am super excited to be part of this rad q***r magical virtual conference in June called Meet Me at The Margin. Link in the comments. Student and Drag/Trans Visibility rates available. Early Bird registration ends on May 7th.
Here’s what I’ll be talking about:
De-Centered But Influential: Creative Somatic Narrative Magic
In this workshop, cis q***r artist, somatic narrative art therapist, and Irish- and Italian-American hereditary Stregx and Hermit Amy DiGennaro, MFA, MA, ATR, LMFT, SEP, BSD (she/her) will invite you into the Narrative worldview and her integrative, attachment- and trauma-informed, liberatory helping practices that work to deconstruct and dissolve the pathologizing coloniality that is centered in most traditional US psychotherapy practices through creativity, embodiment, and magic. You will learn core principles and practices of Narrative Therapy first developed by Michael White and David Epston; and DiGennaro’s de-centered and de-centering q***r witchy somatic creative praxis that grew from those roots to an entanglement of Narrative praxis, Somatic Experiencing, Art Therapy, half-assed Buddhist mindfulness, and rabble-rousing love and liberation activism that DiGennaro considers deep solidarity work.
“Narrative praxis is founded on the belief that we are constituted by stories and that, as we Narrative practitioners always say, "Problems are problems…People are not problems. Problems are a protest for or against something. If we can develop curiosity about what they are here to help us with, we can move in that direction and towards creating the lives we want to live. As a professional artist/Registered Art Therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I am aware of the limits of the cognitive and deeply grateful for creative and embodied practices that open up territories inaccessible through, or even limited by, a cognitive approach. Embodiment and creativity allow us to move between worlds, to create worlds, and to re-imagine and re-experience our existence in new and unexpected ways.”
– Amy DiGennaro, Artist/Therapist
A month-long virtual conference for q***r people who want to reclaim and re-story their innate capacity for ambiguity, paradox, and liminality.
