Did you know social isolation can be as harmful to your health as smoking 15 ci******es a day? 😔
For seniors — especially during Minnesota winters — loneliness isn't just an emotional struggle. It's a physiological one. Isolation raises cortisol levels, weakens the immune system, and increases the risk of cognitive decline.
The good news? Connection is powerful medicine. 💙
Our latest blog explores:
✔️ The biology behind loneliness
✔️ Why Minnesota winters make it worse
✔️ Practical steps to help the seniors in your life feel less alone
If you or a loved one is struggling, ACP is here. We offer specialized mental health services across the Twin Cities — in-person and via telehealth.
Real talk: most couples wait years before asking for help. And by then, small cracks have become big ones. 😔 If you and your partner keep having the same fights, feel more like roommates, or are going through a major life change — that's your sign to reach out now, not later.
Couples therapy isn't a last resort. It's a tool for building something better, together.
Is it just the "winter blues" or something more? ❄️
If you've been feeling more than just tired since the holidays ended, you're not alone. Many Minnesotans experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during our long, dark winters—and it's more than just wanting to hibernate until spring.
Watch for these signs: ✓ Persistent low mood nearly every day ✓ Oversleeping and extreme fatigue ✓ Intense carb cravings and weight changes ✓ Withdrawing from friends and activities ✓ Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
The good news? There are proven treatments that work, from light therapy to specialized CBT and medication management.
You don't have to spend Minnesota winters in the dark. Our team is here to help with immediate appointments available across all 7 Twin Cities locations.
Forget those overwhelming New Year's resolutions. 🙅♀️
This year, we're doing things differently—with micro-habits that actually stick. Instead of radical overhauls that fizzle out by February, what if you could build lasting resilience with tiny, science-backed actions that take just minutes a day?
Our latest blog shares 5 DBT-backed micro-habits to help you crush your mental health goals in 2026—without the burnout:
✨ Pause and check the facts when anxiety strikes
✨ Practice radical acceptance (even in traffic!)
✨ Reset your nervous system with mindful transitions
✨ Use the "opposite action" move to break negative patterns
✨ End your day with intentional self-validation
Ever wonder when you need a psychiatrist vs. a therapist? 🧠💭
We sat down with Dr. Justin Miles, M.D., a psychiatrist at ACP, to demystify psychiatric care and help you understand when medication might be part of your mental health journey.
Key takeaways:
✨ Therapy is often the best starting point—psychiatrists typically step in when talk therapy alone isn't enough
✨ Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in the biological AND psychological aspects of mental health
✨ The most critical skill? Active listening. "The story really starts with the patient," says Dr. Miles
✨ Medication doesn't have to mean lifelong use—skilled prescribers can help you set boundaries and expectations
Dr. Miles reminds us: "Breakthroughs often happen when we go out of our comfort zone."
Ready to take the first step? Our experienced team of psychiatric prescribers is here to guide you toward better mental health.
🌟 DBT Therapy: Your Bridge Between Acceptance & Change 🌟
Ever feel stuck in a ditch, wondering how you got there—and how to get out? That's where DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) comes in.
We sat down with Tammy Tucker, MA, LPCC, Director of DBT at ACP, who explains it perfectly: DBT helps you understand why you're in the ditch, how to get out, and how to avoid ending up there again. 💪
What makes DBT different?
✨ Blends mindful acceptance with practical change
✨ Includes individual therapy + skills groups + real-time coaching
✨ Teaches you to regulate emotions, tolerate distress & improve relationships
Try this DBT "mini-game":
Next time you sip your morning coffee, take 60 seconds to notice the aroma, warmth, and taste. That's mindfulness in action! ☕
DBT isn't just for intense emotions—it helps when feelings feel too big OR too muted. If you've tried traditional therapy and still feel stuck, this might be the fit you've been missing.

In today's hustle culture, we celebrate the grind and glorify exhaustion. But when productivity becomes toxic, our mental health pays the price.
⚠️ Signs you might be burning out:
-Feeling emotionally drained (even by hobbies you used to love)
-Guilt for resting or "not doing enough"
-Your worth feels tied to your to-do list
-Relationships taking a back seat to work
Here's the truth: Rest isn't laziness. It's recovery. ✨
You are more than your productivity. You deserve balance, peace, and a life aligned with your values—not just your output.
If you're feeling stuck in the cycle of burnout, we're here to help. Our compassionate team offers therapy and psychiatry services across the Twin Cities metro area.
