This month (November), and every month, we pause to acknowledge and express our gratitude for the sacred land upon which our collective gathers and practices healing.
We are on the ancestral homelands of the Waȟpékhute (Dakhóta), Anishinabewaki (Ojibwe), and Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux) peoples. This place, now called Minneapolis, is rooted in the Dakota phrase Mni Sota Makoce, “the land where the waters reflect the clouds.”
We recognize that this acknowledgment is a starting point, not a finish line. It is a commitment to remember that this has been and always will be Indigenous land, stewarded for millennia before us.
Our work is connected to the earth and the body. In this spirit, we strive to honor the enduring legacy, resilience, and profound contributions of the original peoples of this territory.
We encourage our community to join us in learning, reflecting, and supporting Indigenous communities.
A few ways to begin:
*Learn about the history of the 1851 treaties and their impacts. They contributed to taking away Native lands.
*Support Indigenous-led organizations and businesses.
*Listen to and amplify Native voices.
We are grateful to live, love, and work here, and we reaffirm our respect for the original and continuing caretakers of this beautiful land.
