Driving to pick up groceries yesterday, I found myself behind a car covered in bumper stickers. Not an unusual sight. But one of them caught my eye—a small, black square with white text. There was nothing flashy or particularly special about the look of this bumper sticker, and I’m not really sure how I even caught the tiny words while both vehicles were in motion, but since my word of the year is “Notice,” I thought it was probably significant. The ICE presence in Minnesota has not wavered since last week’s collective reading, but neither have the hearty Minnesotans resisting and protesting. This week, I pulled four cards for four different experiences: one for those feeling hopeless; one for those unsure where to begin; one for those already out there in their communities doing the work; and one for those who want to get involved, but feel thwarted by obstacles. At the time of this writing, ICE is terrorizing the city of Minneapolis—kidnapping, injuring, and killing our neighbors. Word on the street is that hundreds more agents are being deployed as we speak. Everyone I talk to seems to be wavering between shock, rage, disbelief, fear, and despair. I know that I have personally experienced a similar range of emotions over the past week as well. When I sat down with my Tarot cards to pull the collective reading, I felt numb. I didn’t know what to even ask. So I didn’t ask anything. I just shuffled the cards and trusted that what I pulled was what we needed to hear.
