My elementary school hosts a school wide Turkey BINGO this week and a silent auction. I put together a marketing basket for my private practice to donate for the auction. Included are all my favorite toys. Each with an activity guide for adults to target speech and language skills with their child in addition to 2 free speech sessions. 🦃

Meeting later in life was how it was supposed to happen. Each of us healing from wounds that molded and shaped us into stronger versions of ourselves. We both came to the table wildly independent and determined to evolve and grow.

What started as a first date/interview softened our edges and broke down our walls. Today we remain strongly independent but united in a way that supports each others’ crazy ideas and goals without judgement or selfishness. Life works out in the most perfect of ways.

To all the mamas just trying to find a moment in time for themselves because.. same.

I’ve always needed to move my body. When I was younger it was for aesthetic reasons and now that I’m **wiser** I workout for

🧠 mental health
💪🏼 strength
⏰ longevity
👙 aesthetics

As a busy mom, wife, full time school based |
SLP, part time business owner, and overall human being the only logical time for me to get this in is by setting my alarm for 4:30-4:45am and working out before I’m pulled in a million directions.

Anyone else? 🤷🏽‍♀️

I wasn’t always a Speech Language Pathologist..

We all start somewhere. I’ve had jobs that have shaped me, molded me, broke me, and prepared me for the professional and human that I am today.

Today I am teetering between a full time school based SLP and a part time private practice owner. Both of which have my ❤️

Obtaining the percentage of disfluency can be tough when you’re trying to listen to the child’s speech while also tallying up disfluent episodes in the moment.

I just tried this today and it worked wonders! I wanted to share this time saving tip when doing a fluency evaluation during a speech sample:

⏰ I used one clicker to record the number of total syllables in words during a speech sample.

⏰ The other clicker recorded disfluencies (interjections, part/whole word repetitions, etc).

At the end of the speech sample, I quickly had data and could find the total percentage of disfluency to determine if the child qualified for speech services.

👉🏼 Total # disfluencies / Total number of syllables

I’m a little embarrassed that I’ve never thought of this before. Hope it helps someone else!

I mean.. that would be absurd to include the SLP for a child who relies on augmentative communication modes to express himself. But what do I know? 🤦🏽‍♀️
