Reposting from March 2021 because it’s so relevant:
The body holds the answers. This is a term that is relatively “new” — basically it’s the interweaving of how the body is so wise and intricately connected. When we give ourselves space to *feel, instead of running for a solution but rather allowing space for observation, we can heal so deeply and it becomes our nature. Simplicity as our nature should be the new normal. There is an orchestra going on inside our body and when we are still and we heal it allows harmony within. The studies of Psychodermatology allow us to consider how the inner world plays out in the skin. There is another layer, but I’ll talk about that later.
“Psychodermatology is a relatively new discipline in psychosomatic medicine. It is the interaction between mind and skin. The two disciplines are interconnected at the embryonal level through ectoderm. There is a complex interplay between skin and the neuroendocrine and immune systems. Skin responds to both endogenous and exogenous stimuli; it senses and integrates environmental cues and transmits intrinsic conditions to the outside world.
The exact prevalence of psychological factors that affect skin disease is not known; however, it has been estimated to be 25% to 33% in various studies.1 Research has shown that stimuli received in the skin can influence the immune, endocrine, and nervous systems at both the local and central levels. In several skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, the tissue levels of nerve growth factors and neuropeptides, such as substance P, have been associated with the pathogenesis of disease and markers of disease activity.” *notes from Dr. Mohammad Jafferney (couldn’t explain it better myself)
