What a great way to celebrate ! Our Uptown Clubhouse had a special guest today: Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley! This was Commissioner Conley's first visit to a clubhouse. She toured, learned more about the vital and necessary services of the Clubhouse program, and asked how she could help to support the Clubhouse community.

With over 20 years of service as a county commissioner and training as a social worker, Commissioner Conley has been a long-time champion of community supports such as the clubhouse. Conley said, "This is my kind of place. Not only a place of recovery, but a place that supports a healthy and meaningful life. There is a difference between living and existing. Spaces like [Clubhouse] enhance the living aspect. These spaces are critical to the functioning of all of us."

Thanks for visiting, Commissioner Conley, and for being an advocate for community mental health supports!👏💙

In a 100 year old home on W. 36th Street lives Vail Communities Uptown Clubhouse. Today I had the chance to tour, share a meal and answer questions from the incredible people who drop in daily. The Clubhouse is part of a network of clubhouses internationally that provide dignity, a sense of purpose, community and service to people living with mental illness. Today I heard many stories, a really good joke and the importance of communities like Vail to stay a core part of uplifting humanity and changing lives.

So grateful to the staff and all the folks I met today for the great work you're doing, everyday, to keep people whole, break the stigma and promote peace of mind and stability.

“When I go to Vail, I feel like I matter. I have a community of people who care about me.”

As a community-based program, the Clubhouse fills vital gaps in the mental health system, providing individuals with relationships, purpose, and opportunity. Vail Clubhouse Members, along with Chad Bolstrom, Senior Director of Clubhouse Programs & Public Policy, joined Olmsted County for their second community listening session about a Clubhouse coming to the area. Mental Health Day on the Hill is just one month away, and Vail Communities could use YOUR voice! Each year, mental health organizations and providers come together to advocate for mental health services in our state. As a community-based provider, it's a great day to rally our community and make our voices heard!

Come join Vail as we advocate, meet with legislators, and show how powerful the Clubhouse Model is for mental health recovery. See you then!

How can we care for ourselves and our community? It can be hard to prioritize self-care, but it's important to make time and space for it. By taking care of ourselves, we are then better equipped to care for others.

Here are a few self-care tips to implement for yourself. Remember: do what works for you! Self-care doesn't have to be anything grand--it can be small, intentional steps to promote wellbeing.💙

Did you know that Black History Month's origins trace back to 1926? Led by Dr. Carter Woodson, an American historian, it began as only a week-long observance but was expanded to a full month in 1976 during the United States' bicentennial.

Known as the "Father of Black History," Dr. Woodson popularized the field of Black studies and founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History in 1915. He chose the month of February because it includes the birth dates of two prominent figures in Black history: Frederick Douglass, born Feb. 14th, and Abraham Lincoln, born Feb. 12th.
