We have created our clinic rooms to feel like an extension of your home and community. There’s plenty of space for your family, books and toys for littles, and warm + intentional care from our staff. We’d love to support you for your prenatal care, birth, postpartum, and well person care.

The comforting and joyous sound of baby’s heartbeat ✨

Our clients have shared how important these small moments of hearing their baby’s heartbeat are to them in their prenatal visits. For some, it’s a first pregnancy with overflowing joy and excitement. For others, it’s an exciting moment to share with their older children. For others, it’s a mix of anxiety and comfort if they’ve experienced miscarriage or loss. At Roots, we support you in a way that is trauma informed, and unique to you and your experiences. 🌱

Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Support at Roots 🌱

Prenatally, we discuss feeding basics in our in-person Childbirth Education class. We also answer any questions during your prenatal visits as you prepare to feed your baby. We can connect you to lactation support or specific classes if you’re looking for a more in-depth course.

At your birth, our midwives and birth assistants are skilled in helping establish your first breast/chest feeding.

Postpartum, our midwives will see you on day 1 and 3 at your home, and at 1, 2, 4, and 6 weeks in clinic. If challenges arise postpartum, they can help make a plan and can also connect you to IBCLC support if persistent challenges or expert lactation support is needed.

Immediate Skin to Skin at Roots Community Birth Center 🌱

When you birth at Roots, we ask you if you or your support person would like to help catch baby. We then help safely guide baby to your chest so you get that immediate skin to skin contact that is so beneficial for you and your baby. ✨

Postpartum and Newborn Care: In Clinic, at Roots 🌱

Did you know that your newborn can receive well-child care with our midwives at Roots until 6 weeks of age?

We check on your baby’s vital signs, monitor growth, jaundice levels, feeding, and help you navigate common concerns in the first weeks of life. ✨

Postpartum Care: In Clinic, at Roots 🌱

On days 1 and 3 we come to your home. 🏠

At 1, 2, 4, and 6 weeks postpartum we invite you to come to the birth center. At these postpartum visits, we check on your vital signs, assess bleeding, healing, feeding, family and emotional transitions, and help process your birth and initial postpartum time.

We believe this frequency better supports postpartum families and helps improve physical and emotional wellbeing. ✨

Hospital based care providers are infrequently part of your care in labor until the very end as you’re about to birth your baby.

Our model of care looks and feels different than this standard. We are skilled in supporting your birth physically and emotionally. We believe you deserve to feel held through it all.

YES! You can have your VBAC at Roots 🌱

Often times, folks who have had previous surgical births aren’t given all of the options for consecutive births.

We are the only out-of-hospital birth center in Minnesota that offers care for VBAC!

**Our regulations require certain criteria for birth center VBACs so please reach out with specific questions! ✨
