Black Maternal Health Week 2026 ✨

This is the time of year of increased visibility and awareness to the health disparities Black birthing folks experience. Black birthing people in the United States are 3.5x more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth related complications than their white counterparts.

This reality and the systems that contribute to and uphold the racism and oppression are the “why” Roots Community Birth Center was created in the first place. 🌱

Our owner, Rebecca Polston founded Roots to “create a space where Black birthing families could come and be supported and celebrated with all of the joy, respect, and honor that we deserve.” 🤰🏿

This year’s Black Maternal Health Week centers the theme, “Rooted in Justice and Joy.” Year round, our team is working alongside community partners locally and nationally to push for improved outcomes for families. Every day we are actively working towards a liberated future for the Black birthing families in our Minneapolis community and beyond. 🫂
