In 5 years as a doula I've seen many breech babies flip head down in pregnancy.

But I've also had 5 baby clients born breech.

I'm not advocating for any one way of birthing breech babies. I AM advocating for parents with breech babies to have real options. These parents deserve to weigh the risks and benefits of an ECV to try and turn baby, a scheduled C-section, or a breech vaginal birth, and they deserve to be supported by skilled care providers.

Can I let you in on a secret?

I share a lot of different types of births on this account. But the truth is: I do not care how your baby comes out of your body. Vaginal birth, c-section, pain meds or no pain meds, etc. etc. I do not care and I will not judge you for your choices.

What I care about is that you feel empowered to decide what is best for you. Not what is best for me. Not what is best for your OB or midwife. What is best for YOU.

Period.

I can't help myself ๐Ÿซฃ

The doula/client relationship is so deep! When a repeat client reaches out and invites me to attend their birth again, I have such a hard time saying no.

Any other birthworkers feel my pain? ๐Ÿคช

This quote from Jen Hamilton has been on repeat in my head since I heard it last week.

Birth is wild.

It is messy, bloody, loud, and primal.

It is all-consuming, and can be overwhelming.

It is nothing like anything you've done before.

It will push you to your limit, your breaking point... and then it will push you further.

If you know what to expect, it's not as scary. Not as overwhelming.

Education is KEY to improving birthers' satisfaction with their birth experience.

โ“Did you know what to expect for your labor? Did it help?

You always have options in birth ๐Ÿ’•

This family's first C-section was unplanned, and emergent. Their HBAC for baby #2 was redemptive and peaceful, and I was so happy to be invited to it.

Did you know about HBACs??

This review is long overdue, but I just saw that our wonderful doula [Megan] has some last minute openings this year so I said โ€œmom brain be gone, write this review RIGHT NOW!โ€

Megan was our doula for my baby born in 2023, and I couldnโ€™t recommend her or Bria enough. My husband was a bit on the fence when I initially brought the idea of a doula to him, but the minute after Megan left our first in-person meeting he was like โ€œbest money Iโ€™ve ever spent.โ€ We clicked with Megan quickly and felt safe and comfortable with her. She is very laid back and easy to get along with, but also very knowledgeable and excited to share that knowledge and support her birthing families. She explained what my husbandโ€™s role would be during labor which gave him confidence going into everything, showed us lots of pain management tactics, and went over my birth plan with us. She was not judgmental over any decisions we made (we had a hospital birth with midwives and I got an epidural when my labor went from 0 to 60 real quick). During my actual labor, she made it her mission to turn my hospital room into a ~vibe~ complete with twinkle lights, battery operated candles and my birthing playlist, which made it even more special for us.

But the best part about working with a team is the added education and support. We had a one-on-one educational day with Bria which was phenomenal, and the lactation support with their LC was so helpful. If youโ€™re on the fence about even getting a doula, DO IT. And then do yourself one better & work with Reclaimed Village, you wonโ€™t regret it.

Only 4 days left to snag early bird pricing for our Keeping Your Power advocacy workshop for doulas (February 2025) with Birth Doula Brittany and Traci Doula, Maternal Instincts Doula!

I first took this workshop in 2020 when I was a brand new doula, and the skills I learned have been absolutely invaluable to me as I navigate making sure my clients are centered in their births. It gave me the tools to speak up, without creating animosity.
