Every August 8th, Tanzania honors the important role of farmers in shaping the country’s economy, culture, and future. Known as Nane Nane Day – Swahili for “eight eight,” referring to the date – this national holiday celebrates the power of agriculture to drive progress and sustain communities.

This year on Nane Nane Day, we're celebrating Dodoma Christian Medical Center's (DCMC) newest initiative: "Shamba Darasa", a women’s gardening project. This hands-on program supports 10 women from the nearby Ntyuka village, equipping them with sustainable farming skills to grow nutritious food, improve their families’ health and food security, and create new paths for economic growth. Finishing touches are being completed on DCMC's surgery expansion. The two new operating theaters are expected to be in use in August. Construction on a larger combined surgery and ICU building is slated to begin later this year. All of this growth is happening because of your generosity. Thank you!

Pili attended a cervical cancer screening led by DCMC’s Community Health Department (CHD) in the rural Kongwa district. A large pelvic lesion was found during her exam, and Pili shared that it had impacted her health and daily living. Unable to afford care, she was referred to DCMC for surgery to remove the lesion – at no cost to her. Months later when the CHD returned to her village, she reported that her life had been completely transformed, all thanks to the care provided by DCMC.
