Pathways to Children

Pathways to Children Empowering children to change their world. In making people aware of the extreme poverty of this world she felt they would want to help.

Pathways To Children was founded by Grace Strangis as a result of her many years of traveling the world with her Corporate Travel Agency. She grew up with limited opportunities in a small Minnesota farming community and had no concept of the broader world needs and that so much of the world was engulfed in poverty. After seeing the thousands of orphaned and abandoned children on the street with no

school or medical care, she decided the best way she could help was to use her vast travel knowledge and travel coordination skills to bring volunteers to see, hear, touch and hold this vast segment of humanity. She also recognized the opportunity to raise funds for the NGO’s (Non Government Agencies) that are working to provide for the needs of the needs of these children and their families. The result is that the volunteers who accompany Grace not only change the life of a child but their lives are also changed forever! Volunteers provide not only the “human touch” but also expertise in their field. They also are inspired and inspire others when they return to provide financial support which has enabled Pathways to Children to financially support it’s projects of schools, medical facilities and orphanages.

Two new classrooms are nearly completed as additions to the school Pathways built in Belessa, specifically for the purpose of educating more girls in Ethiopia. The construction began in April 2021, which progressed slowly due to political upheaval. Gender-based violence, early marriage, and teenage pregnancy greatly affect girls’ and women’s access to education in Ethiopia. Offering basic education is a proven, effective way of providing girls with power, autonomy and independence to make positive choices over their lives, their families and their community.

The pictures are the most recent picture, a prior construction in progress with local teacher and students and celebration reception at dedication for the original school. We anticipate offering a donor and volunteer trip to dedicate the classroom additions when it is safe to travel to Belessa. We welcome donations to finish the school and for school supplies. Donations call be made online at www.pathwaystochildren.org

Pathways makes news for supporting U of M School of Public Health!
Pathways funds U of M public health graduates each year to travel to India to work and enrich their education at Jan Seva, the Pathways funded school in Kolkata, India. This year students returned home shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic exploded. What they found there underscores the importance of public health efforts, and how hard this pandemic will hit the poorest in the world. Insights from a Dental Volunteer in Kolkata
"Over two days, we had two pediatric dentists from the United States and two local dentists from Kolkata screen 207 children at the Jan Seva School. These children ranged in age from 2 to 7 years old and included several children with special health care needs. Amounts of dental decay found mirrored and were slightly larger than their American counterparts. Fortunately, despite the large amounts of decay, we only saw two children with deep dental infections, also known as abscesses....."

A Quote from Day 6 on which the students built a house! - "Today, we served others instead of eating, eating, and watching football all day. We did celebrate with a thanksgiving meal ending the night with dancing and pictures. We are blessed."
Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Minneapolis, MN and Colegio Anexo San Francisco de Asis (CASFA) in Bogota, Colombia have an international partnership made possible through Pathways to Children. CASFA is a school operated by the Rochester, Minnesota Sisters of St Francis.
