A typical prior authorization call...a person with a growing mass on his skull, not caused by trauma, needs a CT scan...pretty straight forward, right? The physician has to stay on the phone for twenty minutes just to get it approved.

And insurers think that this saves health care money?

MMA is currently only working on the prescription drug side of things, not prior authorization for procedures, but this typifies our physicians' experiences. 80% of prescription PAs are eventually approved, but the hastles physicians, patients, and clinic workers go through cost money too.

The MMA, including many MEDPAC members, braved the snow yesterday to visit with our state senators and representatives at the 2016 MMA Day at the Capitol. This annual event is a great opportunity for Minnesota physicians to participate in the MMA's advocacy efforts to improve healthcare for our state!

More than 100 people attended the annual event, which began at the Doubletree by Hilton in downtown St. Paul.
