Today, our team recognized World Diabetes Day by sharing resources and education with our relatives at the clinic. Staff provided information on diabetes prevention, blood pressure management, healthy eating, and the ways these conditions impact Native communities. Thank you to everyone who visited our table and took time to learn, connect, and support wellness.

IHB offers year-round diabetes care, including nutrition support, blood pressure education, and chronic disease management. We also host monthly community events like Ho-Wah Bingo, Wellness Groups, and seasonal gatherings that bring people together with food, prizes, and culturally grounded support.

Upcoming events include:
Nov. 25 – Diabetes Wellness Group (1:30–3:00 PM)
Dec. 9 – Ho-Wah Bingo: Winter Solstice Party (12:00–1:30 PM)
To register, call the Diabetes Hotline at 612-721-9824, or schedule an appointment at 612-721-9800.

This week, we welcomed Colleen Daly from Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Senior Law Project to visit with our Elders and share valuable information about legal rights, planning, and support services available to adults 60 and older in Hennepin and Anoka counties.

Colleen provided guidance on topics that matter deeply to our Elders and their families, including:
• Landlord–tenant and housing issues
• Public benefits and Medical Assistance
• Social Security (SSI) questions
• Nursing home concerns
• Debt collection
• Power of attorney, wills, health care directives
• Elder abuse and protective resources

The Senior Law Project offers free legal services, wheelchair-accessible appointments, interpreters, and materials in multiple formats—ensuring Elders can receive the support they need with dignity and clarity.

This information session and our other monthly gatherings are part of IHB’s ongoing commitment to caring for our Elders through connection, education, and culturally grounded support.

Miigwech to Colleen Daly and Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid for serving our community with such compassion and respect.

Anne O’Hara, IHB’s very own Community Health Educator, is competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from November 11–16! 🥌 A dedicated member of IHB’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Services (SRHS) team, Anne brings the same focus, teamwork, and determination she shows on the ice to her work supporting community health and wellness.

When she’s not leading education sessions or connecting patients to essential care, Anne is training with Team Strouse, sweeping her way toward a chance to represent Team USA on the world stage!
Her passion for both community health and sport inspires us all. Join us in cheering her on as she competes for a spot at the Olympic Games! 💙❤️

Good luck, Anne—IHB is rooting for you!

Honoring a Lifetime of Service
Today, we celebrate and thank Frank Broderick, a dedicated Indian Health Board member who has been with IHB since the beginning. Frank brought in sage from the Rosebud Reservation to our board meeting today, a meaningful gesture that reflects his lifelong commitment to the health and wellness of our urban Native community.

For over 50 years, Frank has helped shape IHB into what it is today. One of his proudest memories was being recognized by and shaking hands with Frank Fools Crow, the respected Oglala Lakota civic and spiritual leader.

We are deeply grateful for Frank’s decades of service, wisdom, and heart.
Miigwech, Frank, for all you’ve done for IHB and our community. 💛
