Yoga Sanctuary

Yoga Sanctuary Yoga Sanctuary is a nonprofit studio seeking to increase access to holistic yoga for all who seek it

Yoga Sanctuary is a nonprofit, holistic studio, offering a place of respite and integration for your body, mind, and spirit. We seek to teach safe, fun relational yoga every day, to EVERY BODY, offering classes, workshops, and 230hr Yoga Teacher Training at sustainable prices fostering abundant access to holistic yoga. We recognize the disparity and inequity inherent in our country’s origin and intentionally offer reduced rates and scholarships to BIPOC folks who have been harmed by systemic racism. If you are experiencing financial hardship and want to join us for yoga, please connect with Shelley@YogaSanctuaryMpls.com - we want to share yoga, share life and share peace with you. The practice of yoga tells us that everything we need for peace and wholeness is already inside us but living and practicing yoga is best done in the context of a supportive community. Together, we will work to ignite the transformative and healing power of being fully present in our bodies and in our lives.

TOMORROW Give to the Max Day, a day to give to our communities by supporting local nonprofits doing good work. Did you know that Yoga Sanctuary is a nonprofit studio? Our MISSION is to offer accessible, holistic yoga to support individual and collective well-being through in-studio offerings and out-of-studio programming.

Past projects have included work in Minneapolis Public Schools, Prenatal care with People’s Center Hooyo Project, Twin Cities World Refugee Day, Yoga For All hosted at various community centers throughout the metro, teacher in-service day with Bloomington Public Schools, partnerships with Sabathani, Lakewood, Boys & Girls Club, and more.

When you support Yoga Sanctuary, not only are you helping us keep our studio classes at some of the lowest rates in the Twin Cities, but you are also helping increase access and exposure to yoga and all the ways it can bring holistic healing and collective care.

If you would like to support Yoga Sanctuary, consider donating during this giving season, or join us for an upcoming class or workshop.

THANK YOU for believing in this work and being a part of making it possible.

Fall can feel like a whirlwind... of activities, emotions, seasonal shifts, and inner experiences. Times like these call for intentional grounding practices to balance our inner energy as it shifts with the energy around us.

Juliet Alden is teaching a special workshop this Saturday at Yoga Sanctuary- Tame your Vata: Grounding Energy for Fall.

In this class, we’ll discuss and practice yogic techniques to help you transition into the season with more ease, stability, centeredness, and contentment.

Class will include a brief discussion of the elements and how the outer is present inside each of us. Juliet will offer yoga asana practice to help increase tamasic sattwa - stability, steadiness, and destruction of things that are not helpful. We’ll specifically practice forward bends, twists, moving slowing and holding shapes longer, to focus on mentally, physically, and spiritually letting go and to clear space for our intentions.

Additionally, practice will include the concept of sukham/stirham or ease and steadiness from the Yoga Sutras. The final meditation will conclude with Nista Dharana - a practice centered in letting go and turning over a new leaf.

Our hope is that you will leave feeling grounded with a sense of clarity and motivation!

Our friend Nichelle recently joined us in hanging her beautiful art to feature in our studio lobby. She is inspired by our local ecology and magic and has a talent for making the natural world come to life on canvas.

These pieces are also available for sale, and part of the proceeds will support local nonprofits including harm reduction and Joyce's food shelf.

Thank you for inspiring us Nichelle!

✨ Come enjoy her art at Yoga Sanctuary ✨

So many of us are carrying grief — not just from our personal lives, but from the world around us. Often, there is no place to speak it, to feel it, or even to name it.
We are grieving — not just individually, but globally.... Climate collapse, violence, injustice, disconnection — our bodies are holding what our mouths cannot always name.

This workshop offers a small pause within that overwhelm. A soft place to land.A space to begin tending what’s too often carried alone.

Guest Teacher Tamara Beran Robinson (E-RYT 500 hour trauma-informed yoga instructor) combines gentle yoga, breathwork, and guided meditation suitable for all body types and experience levels.

"After profound personal losses, I sought ways to find ease in my body and learn to sit with my grief and all the complex emotions. Drawing on my experience in psychology, hospice bereavement care, and trauma-informed yoga this workshop formed. I will offer a safe, welcoming space to meet grief with care. I’m honored to return to Yoga Sanctuary this fall to lead Grieving Together: A Collective Pause." -Tam

We invite you to join us Sunday at Yoga Sanctuary for shared space to witness grief, tend the body, and begin a gentler relationship with loss— both personal and collective.

What Participants Can Expect:
-A trauma-informed, quiet space for rest, reflection, and reconnection
-Insight into how grief lives in the brain and the body, inspired by Dr. Mary-Frances O’Connor and her book The Grieving Brain
-Gentle, accessible movement and breathwork to support nervous system regulation
-A chance to begin (or re-begin) a relationship with grief, rather than push it away
-Silent journaling and reflection
-Take-home tools for grief-tending and daily emotional care
-No sharing or partner work is required. The container will be held with warmth, respect, and autonomy.
