Same Security, Less Effort. Let’s talk about the new Click coupling. ✨

If you’ve been wondering what’s changed (and what hasn't), we’re breaking it down for you.

The Big News: We’ve made it easier to apply while keeping it just as secure as ever.

Here is the 1-2-3 on what’s different:
1️⃣ The Segmented Ring: The coupling ring now features distinct sections. This new design makes it much easier to align the pouch and ensures a smooth application every time.
2️⃣ The Grip: Look for the new dots on the gray locking tab. These are there to give you a better grip when opening and closing.
3️⃣ The Press: You told us bottom-to-top application could be tricky. Now, you can apply it with a simple, gentle press. (But don’t worry, if you prefer the old way, that still works perfectly, too!)

💡 Good to Know: This update is exclusive to the bag. Your barriers remain the same as always, so your current supplies will still work perfectly together. No need to change your barrier!

Bottom line: It’s the same SenSura Mio Click you love, just a little more intuitive/user-friendly. Keep an eye out for these updates hitting your supply orders over the next few months!

To all the families in the thick of it today—we see you. 🤍 Caregiving isn’t a job you apply for; it’s one you learn on the fly, often through a lot of tears and trial and error.

For National Caregiver Day, we wanted to share a bit of the journey a mother, Carolina, has been on with her daughter, Maya, for the last 9+ years. If you have an ostomy, the word pancake might mean something very different to you 🥞
So on Pancake Day, let’s talk about ostomy pancaking—a common issue that can happen to ostomates and ileostomates, and how to deal with it.

What is pancaking?
Pancaking happens when output hangs around the stoma instead of dropping down into the pouch—basically getting stuck at the “top of the stack.” This happens when there is a vacuum effect as the walls of the bag stick together.

It’s often mistaken for leaking, but they’re not the same thing.

A leak is when output sneaks out from under the barrier, usually at a weak point in the seal.
Pancaking is different. When output is thicker than usual, it can back up quickly with nowhere to go. It builds up around the stoma, forming a “pancake” that pushes the pouch away from the body.

So what helps?
🥞 A little lubricant works like butter on a hot pan—helping output slide down your bag smoothly and keeping things fresher, too.
💨 Adding a bit of air to your bag before applying it can also help. This prevents that vacuum effect that makes pancaking more likely.

Pancaking happens—it’s not your fault, and it’s fixable.

While concerns like leaks, discomfort, or body image can make it feel stressful, remember that you’re not alone, and there are ways to reconnect that feel right for you. Intimacy isn’t one-size-fits-all!

Open communication, patience, and a little trial and error can go a long way.

Love to the point of invention, that’s what Danish nurse Elise Sørensen demonstrated in the early 1950s, driven by empathy for her sister, Thora.

After Thora’s ostomy surgery, Elise was moved by her sister’s constant worry about leakage. From that care and compassion came an idea that would change lives. Elise’s vision inspired Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen to create the world’s first adhesive ostomy bag—leading to the founding of Coloplast in 1957.

Their way of thinking didn’t just help Thora, it continues to support millions of people around the world today. And while much has changed over the decades, we’re still guided by the same spirit of empathy, innovation, and collaboration that inspired Elise, Aage, and Johanne.

Do you use a hydrophilic catheter? Make sure you continue to receive your catheter.
Here’s what you need to do to continue getting the same product:

1️⃣ Contact your supplier or prescribing clinician and say:
👉 “Please update my catheter prescription to say ‘hydrophilic’ or my brand name/item number of the catheter I have been receiving.”

2️⃣ Follow up with your supplier to confirm the prescription has been updated and that you’ll keep receiving the same catheter.

What does hydrophilic mean?

Hydrophilic means "water-loving." This means a hydrophilic catheter has a coating that becomes slippery when it meets water, which helps reduce friction and irritation*. Many of these catheters are ready-to-use, like our SpeediCath® and Luja™ catheters!

🚨If you use any of these products, or any other catheter labelled "hydrophilic," it’s time to update your prescription!

New billing codes came into effect on January 1st and to continue getting the product you love, your prescription will have to be updated. Talk to your supplier or prescribing clinician to update it so your catheter order is not affected by the change.

The Coloplast Story

The Coloplast story begins back in 1954. Elise Sørensen is a nurse. Her sister Thora has just had an ostomy operation and is afraid to go out in public, fearing that her stoma might leak. Listening to her sister’s problems, Elise conceives the idea of the world’s first adhesive ostomy bag.

Based on Elise’s idea, Aage Louis-Hansen, a civil engineer and plastics manufacturer, and his wife Johanne Louis-Hansen, a trained nurse, created the ostomy bag. An ostomy bag that helps Thora – and thousands of people like her – to live the life they want to lead.
