In March, our Music Therapists, Lindsay Markworth and Anna Brudzinski travelled to Columbus, Ohio for the Great Lakes Regional Music Therapy Conference, leasing presentations on Improvisation-Based Play and Structures for Clinical Improvisation. Lindsay also made a stop in Pittsburgh to guest lecture at Duquesne University!

It is an incredible privilege to be given space to engage in learning, teaching and conversations on topics close to our hearts. What a beautiful whirlwind of community, learning and musicking.

I first met Ian Crawford when he was an intern at The Center For Discovery in Harris, NY where I was working in 2011. When we both ended up back in Minneapolis, I was thrilled for him to be the first music therapist to join me at Twin Cities Music Therapy Services in 2015, covering clients during my maternity leave. Ian continued to be a valued member of our team through the transition from contractors to employees, many office moves and one global pandemic. Through it all he has shared his kind heart, thoughtful approach to meeting clients and his love of music. We have been so very lucky to have worked with Ian for almost ten years!!! While our hearts are heavy to see him move on from music therapy, we are also very excited for Ian and his next career in piano tuning and environmental work. Thank you, Ian, for sharing so much with us the past ten years! You will be missed!

The purpose of our fundraiser is to expand access to music therapy services for Minnesotans in need. Music therapy is not a service reimbursed through private insurance, or Medical Assistance in the state of Minnesota. 100% of donations will be used to fund our scholarship program for individuals who otherwise would not be able to access services!

Seven of our Music Therapists attended the Music Therapy Association of MN’s Fall Conference on Saturday!

We learned about Polyvagal Theory in Music Therapy with Erin Fox, Ethics in Hospice care with Dr Cheryl Dileo and Receptive Methods with Dr Denise Grocke! It was a wonderful, full day of learning and connecting with our MN Music Therapy community! 🎶

Five of our music therapists attended the Music Therapy Association of MN’s Spring Conference on Saturday! What a wonderful opportunity to learn about Hmong culture & considations for working with refugees and immigrants. In the afternoon we explored songs from Somalia together! Thank you to the presenters: True Thao, Qorsho Hassan, Becca Buck and the Hmong Dance Group for enriching our learning!

Our founder, Lindsay Markworth, is honored to serve our music therapy community in MN as the President of the Music Therapy Association of MN!

Lindsay Markworth (she/her) is a Nordoff-Robbin’s Music Therapist, cellist, private practice owner and mom. She recived a bachelors degree from Augsburg University, MMT degree from Temple University and NRMT Certification from New York University. Lindsay is the founder of Twin Cities Music Therapy services in Minneapolis, specializing in a creative, relationship-based music therapy with neurodivergent individuals and people with disabilities. Lindsay is passionate about clinical improvisation, teaching courses at Augsburg University and presenting throughout the GLR. Outside of music therapy, She is learning to mountain bike and loves spending time in nature with her husband and two children.

Four of our music therapists traveled to Milwaukee, WI last week for the Great Lakes Region of AMTA conference! We had a great time learning and connecting with other music therapists!

Lindsay Markworth partnered with her colleague, Lindsay Rossmiller, to present on Clinical Improvisation through a Reflexive Approach.

Lindsay Markworth and Anna Brudzinski presented on Improvisation-Based Play, sharing ideas for how to creatively meet children in their imaginative worlds using improvised music and songwriting.

We are grateful for this time to recharge our professional selves and looking forward to carrying forward this energy into sessions this week!
