We’re excited to share a sneak peek of the outpatient pharmacy in our new Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center — located just steps from the main lobby for easy access.

With over 3,500 square feet of space, the pharmacy will feature private consultation areas where patients can meet with pharmacists to support their care coordination.

Pharmacy Manager Marcus Arneson and Supervisor Ben Reynolds recently toured the space where patients and guests will be able to pick up medications and get the guidance they need to use them safely and effectively.

The fifth level rooftop garden we’re building on the Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center required more than 1,221 cubic yards of soil blown into place from a blower truck.

Ready for planting the trees and shrubs that patients and guests can enjoy when the building opens in fall 2026.

Progress update from our new Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center!

The terrazzo floor is now being poured in our future cafeteria space. Not only is terrazzo durable and eco-friendly — it’s also watertight, making it ideal for clean, high-traffic areas like this one. And the best part? It’s absolutely stunning.

When the building opens in Fall 2026, patients, guests and Care Team Members will enjoy a bright, welcoming and comfortable dining space.

Earlier this month, Jeff Finley, a Wayfinder Volunteer at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, was honored posthumously with the Allina Health Annual Volunteer award, one of four volunteers to receive this top volunteer recognition.

Jeff helped patients and guests navigate the large hospital campus with a smile on his face and a pep in his step, and boy did the patients and guests respond to his brand of joy. Patients knew him by name and some would make sure their appointments aligned with his volunteer schedule, so he could keep an eye out for them.

We are so grateful to have had Jeff as part of our volunteer team – he was an amazing light and friend to countless individuals at Abbott.

Our landscape architects and planners recently gathered to design the rooftop garden for the new Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center.

They’ve selected native plants that will bloom in early spring, thrive through summer, and bring vibrant color in the fall—creating a peaceful, ever-changing space for patients to enjoy. We can’t wait to share this healing garden when the center opens next fall!
