Our new intraoperative MRI has arrived at the Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center! Carefully hoisted through the side of the building via crane, this 11-ton piece of equipment allows Allina Health Brain & Spine Institute experts to capture real-time images during neurosurgical procedures. This lets the team have greater precision and safety during surgery and better patient outcomes.

Some brain, neck and spine conditions can now be treated without open surgery. Neurointerventional surgery uses tiny catheters and advanced imaging to diagnose and treat issues like stroke, aneurysms and other blood vessel conditions – often with smaller incisions, shorter recovery and less risk.

The biggest improvements are sometimes the ones patients and visitors can't see. Our new underground tunnel system will transform the way supplies and materials are moved throughout our hospital campus. What was once a time-consuming and highly visible process will now be done in a more efficient and safer way all without disrupting patient care.
