Our GWBME Coffee Talk series resumes today with new BME faculty member, Dr. Brittany Hartwell! Join us on Thursday, Dec. 9 in NHH 4-101 from 11:30am-12:30pm for coffee, bagels, and the chance to hear from Dr. Hartwell about her personal and career journey.

For our coffee talk series, we invite a member of our BME community each month to speak about their journey to their current position and interests outside of the lab. The focus of these talks will not be on science, but rather on the speaker's own journeys through grad school, postdocs, finding a job, etc. These talks are intended as informal discussions, so please bring any questions you have!

Make sure to come join this month's Coffee Talk with Brenda Ogle this Wednesday October 28th at 3:30pm!! GWBME is excited to continue the Coffee Talk series! The focus of this talk will not be on her research, but rather her own journey through grad school, post docs, finding a job, etc. This is intended to be a casual series, so students can get to know the faculty beyond their research and build our BME community.

It’s a new year and we have a new team of GWBME officers! Meet our VP of Communications, Abby Heiller! She is from Lakeville, MN. Her research involves developing a new auditory prosthesis that directly interfaces with the auditory nerve, the auditory nerve implant (ANI). She enjoys listening to audiobooks, reading, drawing, and doing jigsaw puzzles and she has two cats, Orion and Reggie. She has been training Reggie to give high-fives, which he only gives if there are treats involved. Her favorite part about being involved with GWBME is the sense of community and support system within GWBME.

Meet our VP of Communications, Sophie Givens!

Sophie is from Eugene, Oregon. Her research project involves construction of a human stem cell derived 3D myocardial tissue model. She’s happiest when she’s outside, skiing, dancing, paddle boarding, or doing yoga. When she’s not doing those things, she enjoys cooking, baking, & cuddling with her cat while dreaming about having a cat sanctuary or reptile farm in the future. Her favorite part of being involved with GWBME is reading & discussing books about women & under-represented minorities in STEM during GWBME steminist book club, which she runs!
