This week our Paramedic Trainee Program celebrated the completion of their program with a graduation ceremony! This group of team members began their journey as EMTs, spending 40 hours per week for the last 10 months completing the rigorous demands of our paramedic program. Their program graduation is a moment of pride, as once they pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam they will transition to their new role as Hennepin EMS paramedics and begin the Academy. Their next six months will consist of additional classroom education and instruction under a Field Training Officer to become street ready. A shout out not only to this cohort, but also to the Hennepin EMS Emergency and Critical Care Education team and paramedic preceptors for the dedication and hard work!

In January, Memorial Blood Centers declared a statewide blood emergency in Minnesota, with a 40% post-holiday donation decline resulting in a less than two-day blood supply for hospitals across the state. This declaration comes at a time when many Minnesotans are seeking meaningful ways to support their communities.

To help meet the call for blood donations in Minnesota, our team hosted a blood drive in our EMS Education space where our staff and neighbors stepped forward to help solve our state’s blood shortage.

Thank you to all who donated including first responders from Hennepin EMS and Minneapolis Fire Department. Together, we exceeded our blood drive goal, potentially saving over 110 lives!

Also, a special thanks to KARE 11 for coming by to spotlight this community blood drive!

Congratulations to the Hennepin EMS 2025 Educator of the Year, Mark Cusick. Mark was recognized at our annual awards gala in late 2025. Mark has had a major role in elevating our tactical EMS education in the region, including working with partners like the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources , University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and more. He and his team log thousands of education hours a year, advancing EMS in our region and developing the next generation of first responders. He’s a great mentor to his fellow HEMS team members, and we are honored to have him. Congrats, Mark!

In December, Cindy Anderson retired after devoting 35 years to Hennepin Healthcare as a paramedic and educator. During her career she made such a huge impact on patients, students and her coworkers.
