In From the Road to the Classroom, and All the Potholes Along the Way, Eriq Gasse, OMS3, reflects on the challenges and unexpected strengths that come with leaving the field and entering medical training.

The piece highlights an important truth: while the transition can be difficult, the skills developed in EMS โ€” clinical instincts, communication, and resilience โ€” provide a strong foundation for success in medicine.

As we celebrate EMS Week, this article honors the experiences EMS professionals carry with them โ€” both on and off the road: https://www.emra.org/news/from-the-road-to-the-classroom-and-all-the-potholes-along-the-way

For more than 3 weeks, Dr. Rubeliz Bolivar has been held by the Department of Homeland Security, despite having a valid work permit. Today we are pleased to report that Dr. Bolivar will be released on bond from federal detention shortly.

"The release of our colleague is long overdue," said EMRA President Pauline Wiltz, DO. "This is a reminder that advocacy matters, that communities matter, and that when people come together, their voices can create real change. Most importantly, Dr. Bolivar Barrios will finally be reunited with her daughter, her husband, her residency, and her community."

The release of Dr. Bolivar Barrios serves as both a celebration and a call to action, reinforcing the need for continued support for international medical graduate physicians who care for the people of this nation.

ACEP and EMRA will continue to monitor the situation and provide support as appropriate.
