The only rallying cry any of us should even consider heeding.👆🏻✨I watched a clip from yesterday’s celebration of life for 10-year-old Harper Moyski, killed August 27 in the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. I couldn’t stop my tears as I listened to her mother call for each of us to burn brighter. Not with rage, but with love—can you imagine?? “Light is not something that we carry alone,” she said, “It’s something we hold together and pass around. It’s something we share and something that binds us together.” If this incredible woman can find light in the unimaginable darkness of her daughter’s slaying, I have to step up. I have no excuse to bring anything BUT light to each moment — and to each person — as best I can. And then to do better as I’m able. Thank you, Jackie Flavin. You and Harper have generously imparted a wealth of much-needed inspiration. I promise not to waste or withhold my light.

FYI every post is basically an urgent reminder to myself. 😅 But seriously, sometimes I get all “gonna regulate my central nervous system now” and without the right perspective that can actually make me double down on the muck I’m mucking around in. Today, for instance. I have a nervous system. I have thoughts. Emotions. None of them are me. And that — that means I can change them. Not saying easily. But consciously. And with compassion.

I’m recently revisiting “Human Tuning,” Dr. John Beaulieu’s book about how it’s possible to tune the human nervous system like a musical instrument, bringing it into harmony with itself and the environment. ⁣

It seems incredible and yet also absolutely obvious that when exposed to certain vibrations, our nervous system naturally changes its “sound,” which in turn affects how we move through the world. ⁣(What kinds of sounds, music, tones, bring you into harmony??)

Each time I dip into his extraordinary research and ideas I feel all the more motivated to continue sharing with others how the intentional use of sound can positively influence consciousness, energy, and physical health.

Q: What’s the best way to fight the apathy, judgment and hatred that seems to be spiraling out of control in our world? A: Build something better. Join others who wish to create community around light and joy; not fear or opinion or judgment. 🌈 I had the honor today of serving in a Sumerian temple with 350 ritual masters from around the world to build something incredible. We drew on our collective desire for change, our enthusiasm, our discipline and our biggest smiles as we radiated these light out into the world. Here’s hoping you felt a little bit of that light, warmth and love! And if you need help finding a community of light-minded individuals, just let me know. There’s room for everyone!

Photos from my recent collaboration with & for the most memorable, meaningful Samhain celebration! We wove new year intentions into colorful cords with symbolic charms. We did a bit of good old-fashioned banishing, activated some much-needed clearing through movement … then settled in for a restorative sound healing.

I’ve carried the sense of trust and shared compassion I felt from the group that evening with me into these past couple of weeks, and it has brought me such peace. I’m hopeful the next few months will bring more collaborations with the Sunna community. What Berit and her team offer in terms of programming and opportunities for learning is truly remarkable, and I happen to know she’s got some sweet tricks up her sleeve for 2025!

Nobody said choosing light would be easy. Good thing the light comes in so many different flavors and forms. Because the default is darkness: When we don’t actively choose light, we open up a vacuum into which fear, judgment, pain and punishment can quickly creep. So I’ll feel my feelings. And I’ll process what needs processing. But I’ll do it with the light on.

“Mom, I want you to tell me in a happy voice,” says my 3-year-old after being yelled at (by me). This is right after I tell him not to yell at his brother, mind you. Not a proud parenting moment. But also yes a proud parenting moment because this little human knows how to ask for respect and recognizes double-talk from adults. Mine especially, sigh. Integrity is a big deal to me. I strive for it. I fall short of it. I try again. I want to be held accountable — mostly by myself, if possible. And I notice that the vast majority of times when I don’t say what I mean or mean what I say (both difficult in their own unique way) are moments when I am being careless. Not stopping to reflect or breathe. So I have come to realize that integrity isn’t purely a character quality. It becomes that, perhaps, over time. But it is also a practice. Like mindfulness. Or listening (just ask a 3-year-old).

Friendly reminder in this extra-charged season: We are all leaders, whether or not someone gave us the title. Let’s be the right kind. And maybe—just maybe—when we get enough practice acting with integrity we can hold others accountable to these same criteria.
