It is all too easy to fall into this trap. Letting our feelings stop us from doing what we want to do can be a slippery slope into a vicious cycle that feels never ending.

Being mindful that just because we feel something doesn’t make it true. And holding the feelings of stress and anxiety lightly while engaging in those activities that move us closer to our goals is key.

Reach out to us to learn more and begin building ways to break the cycle.

BURNOUT

What is burnout?
Response to chronic stress that ceases the ability to participate in a previously enjoyable activity. This can typically be caused by stress, overtraining, and overworking.

Here are a few signs and symptoms…
Lack of motivation, decreased performance, lack of enjoyment, withdrawal or isolation, and sense of failure. This is not an exhaustive list, but a few red flags to keep in mind.

How can we PREVENT burnout?
CREATE:
▫️Create a positive environment
▫️Focus on fun and IMPROVEMENT (not always the outcome, but the progress)

RISE:
▫️Acknowledge any and all successes, even the “smaller” wins
▫️In ALL aspects of life, on the field/off the field, in the office/ out of the office
▫️Have perspective on failures or disappointments
▫️Use each experience as a learning and growing opportunity to build and improve upon

REFER:
▫️Seek out people to talk to…
▫️Sports Psychologist
▫️Friends, family, coaches
▫️Decrease the stigma around talking about burnout and recognize that your experience is VALID.
▫️Equip yourself with preventative tools to help you overcome these barriers

Burnout is a common experience. Know that there are strategies to help and you can take steps to improve your performance!
