Q: Can I get rid of my mental health condition through pure willpower and discipline?

A: You cannot just will away mental illness. It is also *not* a sign that you’re weak or have a character flaw. Mental health experts point out that there can be a variety of causes:

🦋 Genetics
🦋 Chemical imbalance in the brain
🦋 Mental/physical trauma
🦋 Loneliness
🦋 Alcohol or drug use

Visiting with a mental health professional, like the ones at Rural Psychiatry Associates, can help you figure out which causes are impacting you and how to best treat them.

📅 Today marks World Mental Health Day. The occasion is a good time to take note of what's happening globally 🌏.

This year, the World Health Organization is focusing on the needs of those facing humanitarian emergencies, ranging from natural disasters, political and armed conflicts, and health emergencies.

People facing one of these situations often experience:
🦋 Fear
🦋 Anxiety
🦋 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

To combat these issues it’s important to provide community self-help, social support, as well as educate frontline workers in how to provide emotional and practical support.
