Q. My parenting style has zero impact on the mental health of my tweens & teens.
A. According to mental health experts, what’s seen as adverse/stressful childhood experiences can negatively impact a child/teens mental health.

🦋 Raising kids with a loving but not overbearing often has the best outcome
🦋 Talk with your child’s counselor/therapist if you have parenting questions

🦋 Look for a therapist that specializes in what you are experiencing

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. According to the FDA, some racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. struggle to get adequate care for their mental health due to a lack of health insurance, less access to treatment, language barriers, and stigmas.

How can you help?
🦋 Educate yourself. What challenges do minorities face in your community?
🦋 Advocate for change: Reach out to your representatives & encourage policies addressing mental health disparities.
🦋 Donate or Volunteer: Look for organizations in your area that focus on improving mental health for minorities and ask how you can best support them.
🦋 If you yourself are struggling, look for a mental health professional who has a close understanding of the challenges minorities face.

Does this resonate with you? 1 in 6 Americans say they feel lonely or isolated all/most of the time. Those numbers came from a recent Pew Research Center survey. While you’re far from alone if you feel this way, there are steps to take to make a change.

🦋 Reach out to friends/family. A support system that checks in on one another with something as simple as a text can do wonders.

🦋 Look for volunteer opportunities in your community. You’ll be giving back and may even find a few like minded people to connect with in the future.

🦋 Talk with a professional. Sharing your story with a therapist can be very beneficial. They can also help if there’s something else going on, like anxiety which may be zapping your desire to leave home. Rural Psychiatry Associates has a team ready to help you when you need us.

You may be thinking to yourself: I want to work on my mental health but do I need inpatient or outpatient care?

Let's break down the differences between these care options:
🦋 Inpatient: Stay at a mental health facility with 24/7 access to mental & emotional support
🦋 Outpatient: Regularly meet with a mental health provider. Can also include medication, group sessions & other remedies

The level of care you need depends on what your needs and challenges are. For example, those tackling substance abuse or a mental health crisis may benefit more from inpatient care

We recommend you talk with a health care provider to determine which is best for your current situation. Visit this link from Rural Psychiatry Associates to learn more ➡️ https://bit.ly/4lazstl

Making the decision to meet a mental health professional can be a big step. So how do you find the right one?

At Rural Psychiatry Associates, we know it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Here’s what you need to take into consideration when finding the right provider for you:

🦋 Insurance coverage: Before scheduling an appointment, check which providers/services are covered by your insurance.

🦋 Specialization: You’ll want to look for one that treats your age group & decide if you need a psychiatrist, who focuses on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, behavioral disorders or if you need a therapist who may talk more about your feelings, beliefs, behaviors.

🦋 Personal Qualities: You may need to meet with a few professionals before finding the one that’s right for you. Are they a good listener, communicate well, match your vibe?

🦋 Location: Finding a provider that is close to where you live is a big plus. This is also where telepsychiatry can come into play, gving you quality care without having to travel a long distance.
