🍂 Looking at Leaves: Studying Venation through Leaf Rubbing

Challenge: Create a leaf rubbing to explore leaf vein patterns.

You’ll need:
Leaves
Paper
Crayons

Steps:
Choose your colors.
Place the leaf (vein side up) under the paper.
Rub gently with a crayon sideways to reveal the pattern.
Study the veins—are they parallel, pinnate, or palmate?
Leaf veins help identify plant species!

Environmental Education
Visual Arts – Drawing or Scrapbooking

🍂 Autumn Leaf Tower Challenge

Goal: Build a tower of autumn leaves over 10 inches tall using only:
Straws
Pipe cleaners
Leaves
Tape

Steps:
Imagine and plan your tower.
Gather materials.
Build your tower.
Reflect—what works, what can improve?
Rebuild or redesign!

You just used the engineering design process to create a leaf tower!

Plant Science – Botany
STEM – Engineering
Visual Arts – Sculpting
