Tech neck” is a term used to describe the neck pain and posture issues that come from spending a lot of time looking down at phones, tablets, laptops, or other screens. It’s become super common with how much time people spend on devices these days.
The further forward the head is, the more pressure put on the spine. This is called “Weight of Strain”. At far angles forward the head can put 60 lbs. of pressure on the child’s developing body. This reverses the natural curve of the neck and results in a “hump”. If not corrected early, long-term neck pain and a hu**ed appearance will persist.
✨ What causes it?
* Forward head posture: When you’re looking down at a screen, your head juts forward. Since your head weighs about 10–12 pounds, that puts a lot of strain on your neck and upper back muscles.
* Repetition and duration: Holding that position for hours, day after day, leads to stiffness, muscle fatigue, and even changes in your spinal alignment over time.
✨ Symptoms:
* Neck, shoulder, and upper back pain
* Stiffness or reduced range of motion
* Headaches (often from tension)
* Tingling or numbness in arms or hands in more severe cases
✨ How to fix or prevent it: 💪
* Raise your screens to eye level
* Take breaks: Stand up, stretch, and move every 30–60 minutes
* Strengthen your neck and back muscles through exercises like chin tucks and rows
* Practice good posture: Ears over shoulders, shoulders relaxed, screen at eye level
