AOA approved solar eclipse glasses sold here for April 8, 2024!! $3

A solar eclipse is what happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, resulting in a complete blockage of the sun’s face.

Eye damage can occur from looking at the sun during a solar eclipse if you’re not wearing proper eye protection (even sunglasses aren’t enough)—and such damage (dubbed “eclipse blindness”) could be permanent.

Input from both the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Optometric Association (AOA) include one major piece of advice: Use approved solar eclipse viewers or eclipse glasses.

According to the organizations, these glasses are deemed to be “the only safe way to view a partially eclipsed sun” due to their special-purpose solar filters that meet international standards for safe viewing.

Other safety precautions to take include adopting the proper viewing technique:

Don’t remove your solar eclipse eyewear while looking at the sun
If you typically wear glasses, place the eclipse glasses over them or hold your handheld viewer in front of them

Note: Sunglasses are not substitutes for eclipse glasses. They are very (very) different and offer no protection in this instance.

The AAO also advises against looking at the uneclipsed—or even partially eclipsed—sun through the following viewfinders, even if you’re wearing proper eclipse eyewear or holding a solar viewer at the same time:

Unfiltered camera
Telescope
Binoculars or similar devices

The reason? “Intense solar rays coming through these devices will damage the protective filter in your solar glasses and put your eyes at risk.”

If you end up looking at the eclipse when you aren’t supposed to… First things first: even if you view the sun and don’t have any immediate visual changes, that doesn’t mean damage hasn’t taken place; in fact, it may take hours or even days for you to take notice.

The AOA recommends immediately seeing your eyecare practitioner (ECP) if you’re experiencing discomfort or vision problems.

“All symptoms should be treated as urgent until viewed by a doctor of optometry,” stated the AOA.

If you miss it…Next eclipse: Aug. 23, 2044!
Stay safe & enjoy!!🌝

Studies have shown, confirmed, & re-confirmed that when we apply sunscreen we do not cover our eyelids⚠️

In these studies, there was almost a complete absence of sunscreen on the upper & the lower eyelids‼️

Apparently, we all do this… 🫣

People are terrible at applying sunscreen to the places that matter the most!🥺

Meet Lovely, our new virtual medical receptionist! 👋🏼

We are thrilled to add her to our team answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and providing other receptionist duties for our staff and our patients. This allows our in-office team members to be servicing our patients in other helpful ways, such as verifying insurance, ordering glasses or contact lenses, ensuring our frame boards have the latest in fashion etc. We are working hard to become more efficient for you in the space we have! We appreciate your patience with us as we implement these changes.🤓

Lovely is well-rounded, eager to help, and a joy to work with! She is a medical technologist and recently successfully completed the exam in International Medical Laboratory Science earning the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certifications! 🤩 She is HIPAA trained and compliant. She has 7 years experience working in a hospital setting, which has enabled her to develop a good sense of patient engagement, time management skills, and producing outcomes through providing personalized healthcare services. Lovely enjoys badminton and volleyball, as well as exploring historical places.

Please give Lovely a warm Mint Hill welcome!🙋🏻‍♀️
