Here’s your reminder to CHEW YOUR FOOD.

It sounds so easy, right?? But how many of us actually do this? I’ll admit... I am guilty of forgetting this simple task.

Did you know HOW you eat is just as important as WHAT you eat?

When we eat in a rushed or stressed state, our body is in “fight or flight” mode. This shuts down digestion—making it harder to break down food, absorb nutrients, and keep blood sugar stable.

Here’s how to support your digestion naturally:

▪️Sit in a calm state before eating – Take 2–3 deep breaths before your meal. Keep distractions away. This means putting your phone down.

▪️Chew your food well – Aim for 20–30 chews per bite. Chewing signals your stomach and pancreas to release enzymes for proper digestion. It all happens in the mouth! Let your teeth do the hard work so your stomach doesn’t have to.

▪️Slow down – Put your fork down between bites and savor the flavors.

👉 When you eat mindfully, your body can focus on “rest and digest”—which means better nutrient absorption, less bloating, and more energy.

SMOOTHIES are so underrated.
Here’s my favorite nutrient dense protein packed recipe:
▪️protein - chocolate protein powder (24g protein)
▪️fat: 1tsp coconut oil (+ unsweetened kefir when I have it on hand)
▪️fiber - bunch of spinach
▪️carb* - handful of frozen blueberries or cherries

*fiber and carbs can be interchangeable - high fiber vegetables are also a carbohydrate source. If weight loss is a concern, stick to the lower glycemic fruit choice such as berries, or eliminate entirely.

Don’t over think it - less is more in most cases. This balanced macros recipe will set you up for blood sugar success. 💥

ON THE GO?
>> When I’m on the go and no time to use the blender, I love SPComplete Chocolate (10g protein) & 1scoop SP whole food fiber, water (or kefir/unsweetened milk of choice) ice, & shake it up.

Additional fat sources: avocado, unsweetened coconut milk, whole fat milk, unsweetened almond milk, nut butter
Other fiber ideas: kale, frozen cauliflower, beet greens, collard greens

What if I told you that your heartburn or indigestion is not caused by a lack of antacids in your system? But rather, an imbalance in your stomach acid? Most of the time stomach acid is too low, rather than high. Stomach acid naturally declines as we age but our lifestyle and diet (and stress management) is something we can be intentional about supporting.

Stomach acid's role in proper digestion:
- activate pepsin (main enzyme in stomach)
- break down proteins

What is muscle testing?
- A non-invasive systematic approach to finding causes of ill health.
- A way to scan the body for nutritional deficiencies and underlying issues using reflex points.
- An approach to not only find out what, but why.

Using reflex points we can observe if there is a deficiency or if there’s something stressing the body such as food, chemicals, bugs (paras!tes), heavy metals, or v!ruses.

From there, we use whole food supplements, dietary recommendations and/or lifestyle changes to address the identified nutritional deficiencies or stressed cause. The goal is to provide the body with the specific nutrients it needs to support the natural healing process and promote optimal well-being.

Raise your hand if you've counted calories and tried to ensure you burn them off?! In our latest Wise Traditions podcast, Dianne Koehler, the owner and director of the Nutrition Therapy Institute, recommends that we count nutrients instead.

Dianne reviews how to assess and include essential nutrients in our diets. She explains why we must carefully evaluate claims on boxes and conventional dietary advice about what to eat ... lean meat, anyone? She reviews which foods actually serve us best and how to identify foods that truly deserve the label "superfood." (Hint: these are foods that offer the most nutrient-density and come from animal products that are well-sourced.) In sum, she offers tips to make better choices in the day-to-day. And she tells us about the "a-ha" that led her to abandon her plant-based diet for a more nutrient-rich one, for her and her family. Sneak peek of the "a-ha" ... discovery of her 4-year old son's 10 cavities that had developed without sweets in his plant-based diet! "We didn’t eat candy in our house, and a diet that you would think would promote cavities."
