Our Story
Over the last 11 years, REA has established an functioning Vision Center @ L'Eglise de Dieu Reformee Hospital in Arcahaie, Haiti. The services include providing comprehensive eye examinations, eyeglasses & medications and performs cataract surgeries in partnership with local doctors. REA has implemented an on hands training program for local trainees to become certified optical technicians. Coming in the Fall of 2019...optical lab on premise! REA will continue to travel to rural communities in the Caribbean, US and Haiti in particular having the most need.
UPDATE: Today February 12, 2019 - In Haiti in 2018 , REA’s Haiti Vision Clinic had over 12 vision clinics, served over 900 patients in all aspects of eye care, over 350 new pairs of custom eyeglasses, 200 reading glasses,sunglasses for all, medications & 49 cataract surgeries.
REA is pleased to announce that the training program is stablizing , we thank Project Director Kesnel Jean for his loyalty to program throughout its entirety, to Surgeon Yves Pierre DeCastro & Clinical Ophthalmologist Dr Jimmy Beausoleil for their committment to caring for eyes of Less Fortunate in the rural areas. Traveling in Haiti is unstable and this REA Team travels from past the capital to Arcahaie to serve the people from east, east north & south. The local trainees are now doing online training as well as OJT.
In South Florida, REA Volunteers continue to provide Vision Screenings and Eyeglass-Tune ups @ Senior Homes, Health Fairs & Community Groups. 2019 is dedicated in both the USA & Caribbean to increase identifying Visual impairements through vision screenings especially in children with REA’s Spring Program: “ Children First, I SEE, I LEARN”.
