Chicago Union player Andrew Sjogren didn't want to spend the season on the sidelines, so when he pulled his right hamstring twice or his lingering hip (adductor) pain would resurface, he would turn to the experts, RUSH Physical Therapist Sam Thurow and Athletic Trainer Liz Serewicz.
"When I first went to RUSH, I felt helpless because nothing I was doing on my own was improving my condition," Andrew explained. "I was unable to train or play because my adductor was in pain just from sitting."
Andrew was familiar with Liz who had been the team's athletic trainer since he joined the team in 2023. With his pain issues, they started working together weekly in conjunction with biweekly appointments with Sam. The duo shared their expertise in a way that he could understand and implement.
Sam helped Andrew strengthen his abductors and supporting muscles. At his check-ins with Liz, she would make sure he was okay to practice and play. With the help of his off-field training, Andrew was able to play in the first game of the season.
"Thanks to RUSH, I was able to play in that game and contribute to a win with a goal and strong defense," Andrew said. "That win started our 12-game win-streak, completing the regular season as the only undefeated team and the number one team in the Ultimate Frisbee Association power rankings."
