Legacy Medical Academy

Legacy Medical Academy Legacy offers a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), QMA ((Qualified Medication Aide) & Insulin courses They started Michiana Healthcare Training in 2000.

Legacy CNA Training was formally known as Michiana Healthcare Training which was owned by Mary Lou Fewell, Dorothy Ball and Karalee Eltzroth. MHT took pride in developing a well respected Certified Nursing Assistant Training company in Northern Indiana. In 2013 two of MHT owners decided to retire and Legacy CNA Training was born. And with many of the same instructors from Michiana Healthcare Training the pride and compassion still lives thru Legacy CNA Training.

Did you know that the muscles that help us swallow also change with age? Add in some memory regression and coordination problems and swallowing becomes really difficult!

This is why a critical part of CNA training is to understand that not all residents have the same swallowing capabilities. By adjusting the thickness of the substance being swallowed, the risk of liquid going into the airway and lungs will reduce the risk of choking and lung infections. The more you know, the better you do 😊

Shout out to the Legacy Medical Academy students at Goshen High School for their hard work in the classroom while they prepare for labs and clinicals.

New Prairie High School is a Project ADAM Heart Safe School and it shows in this picture.

Notice that clear signage pointing to the nearest AED? You will see these signs strategically placed throughout the school. And the red reflective border on the sign.... perfect 👌

These students know how to respond to a cardiac emergency AND they practiced it at the end of their recent CPR class.

Oh there's more. NPHS staff also conducts 2 cardiac emergency drills every school year. Just like they schedule drills for a fire, severe weather or active shooter, NPHS knows that every second counts in a cardiac emergency so the PRACTICE how to respond.

Everyone has a heart that can stop at anytime/anywhere. Is your school prepared to respond? Are the coaches and staff with your child every day prepared to respond? If you are not sure, then they probably need a preparation plan.

Contact Mrs. Aerts at taerts@legacymedicalacademy.com to learn what you can do to lead your school/sport team to create a heart safe environment for everyone to learn, work and play!
