Congratulations to Dr. Ahmad Abbass on his selection as Providence Mission Hospital Foundation’s Physician Champion. This very special honor is a direct reflection of his dedication to the hospital and of his tireless efforts as an ambassador for Mission Hospital’s philanthropic initiatives.

In addition to being a passionate advocate, Dr. Abbass serves as Director, Hepatobiliary Surgery for the ministry. An innovator who enthusiastically embraces integrating technology into his practice, he recently celebrated Mission’s first case done with our newest surgical robot, the DaVinci 5 by Intuitive, which was fully funded by philanthropy.

I'm thrilled to return to my beloved Lebanon and pioneer the country's first robotic Whipple procedure, hopefully setting a precedent for future advancement of robotic Hepatobiliary surgery in Lebanon and the Middle East . I'll be performing not one, but two of these procedures, along with a robotic liver case, all of which will be transmitted live to the audience along with presentations on robotic liver and pancreas surgery by me and other experts in the field..

60 robotic whipples done in 2.5 yrs at Mission Hospital.
Patients in the community are very educated and they have the option to go to esteemed institutions that are not far away! I really appreciate their trust and I assure them that they are getting the absolute best treatment especially the surgery..

Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers but, by the time you know you have it, it is too late. Now with the help of robots, patients have a better chance of survival.

One of Providence Mission Hospital’s extraordinary surgeons, Dr. Ahmad Abou Abbass MD, FACS, performed a robotic Whipple procedure on Wednesday, with surgeons from all over the globe tuning in virtually. Physicians from Pakistan, Greece, Italy, India, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Dubai UAE, Philippines, as well as multiple states, observed the procedure to advance their skills – as Dr. Abbass is widely known for his robotic expertise and innovation.

Considered to be a complex and demanding operation, the Whipple procedure can be lifesaving for some pancreatic cancer patients. Given the complexity, few medical centers in the United States even offer the procedure.

Our chief executive, Seth Teigen, was able to watch the case. “Dr. Abbass is a leader among his peers, performing this procedure with remarkable results and quick recoveries. We’re truly blessed to have his talent and skill here at Mission Hospital,” shares Seth.
