What has helped YOU personally, to become more successful in your own life?

👉🏾That’s your challenge this week: Share your BEST piece of advice!

So many of you have learned some incredible lessons over the years, and that wisdom can (and will!) be able to help someone else who is just starting out, or still struggling with their own path.

I cannot wait to see what you share.

I will start with my favorite piece of advice by Jordan Peterson:

“Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.”

👉🏾 What’s YOUR favorite healthy fat choice – avocado, nuts, olive oil …?

🎯Your Challenge: This is your Healthy Fats Challenge, and it’s all about replacing the not-so-good fats – like those found in processed foods – with HEALTHY FATS – like olive oil, nuts, avocados.

This week your goal is to replace ALL questionable oils and fats in your diet with healthier fats.

🍪That means eliminating hydrogenated/trans fats this week. You’ll find them sneaking around in fried foods, frozen pizza, cookies, crackers, margarine, and a lot of processed foods.

Instead ... focus on the fats you get in salmon, nuts, avocado (the fruit and the oil), olive oil, and tree nuts like walnuts and almonds.

💡Major health organizations recommend getting between 20% and 35% of your daily calories from fat.

⭐ That’s because your body NEEDS fat to perform many key functions, including keeping your cells healthy and using the micronutrients (vitamins & minerals) in your food.

✅ But some fats – like the trans fats found in processed foods – can raise the LDL “bad” cholesterol in your blood and promote plaque build-up in your arteries.

🔥This is where HEALTHY FATS come in.

👉Not only do they keep your cells healthy and help your body use the micronutrients you eat, but they also help reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

✅ Here are some ways to add more healthy fats into your diet:

* 1 ounce of raw nuts (walnuts contain the most omega 3’s)

* Use olive or avocado oil on your salads or when cooking

* Add avocado to your dishes – top salads with it, add it to recipes, and include it in wraps and tacos!

* Eat 2 x 3.5-oz servings of fatty fish each week, like salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, sardines, and albacore tuna.

💓 Did you know that today is National Mammography Day? It’s celebrate on the 3rd Friday of October every year as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

A mammogram is a non-invasive procedure that is used to check for breast cancer in women, even if they have no signs or symptoms of the illness.

The screenings involve a series of x-rays of each breast and are great for detecting tumors deep inside the breast tissue that cannot be felt.

You can have annual breast cancer screenings starting at age 40, but is highly recommended for women over the age of 45 to get mammograms ever year.

Share this with women you love in your life and get educated on ways to promote Breast Cancer Awareness!

It’s NATIONAL DESSERT DAY!!
😋🍏These crustless apple pies are good for a snack OR for a just-right dessert that’s worthy of company.

🍎You are in charge of the sweetness – if you use a sweeter apple like a Gala or Rockit, you won’t need as much maple syrup as you would if you used a Granny Smith.

✅TIP: If you want to elevate these for special occasions, add a sprinkle of low-sugar granola over the top!

MINI CRUSTLESS APPLE PIE
(Makes 3 to 4 servings)

* 2-3 large or 5 small apples, skin on, diced

* 1 tsp ground cinnamon

* ¼ tsp nutmeg

* 2-3 tbsp maple syrup

* 1 tbsp lemon juice

* 2-3 tbsp water

* Coconut whipped cream

Combine chopped apples, maple syrup, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add water to the saucepan. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the apples are completely softened. They should form a thick applesauce. Add more water as needed.

Spoon the apple mixture into 3-4 small dessert serving cups. Top with coconut whipped cream to serve.

Who doesn’t love apple pie!?

💪🏾 I have got a GOOD (and unusual) one for you this week …

And even though it’s a little different, it actually has HUGE benefits for your body.

🔥 It’s the “Hang-Time” challenge … and it’s exactly like it sounds.

🌳Find a tree branch, a pull-up bar, or a sturdy overhead beam, grab hold of it, and hang there!

Start out with just a few seconds (or as long as you’re comfortable going), and add a few seconds each day this week. If you feel strong in this move, start with 30 seconds and work up.

💡NOTE: If you’re new to exercise or the stretch feels too advanced, keep your feet on a bench and gently bend your knees, letting your lower body support some of your weight.

✅ Here are just a few benefits:

👉🏾 It can help decompress (stretch out) the spine.
👉🏾 It can improve your grip strength. Having a weak grip is correlated with being less mobile as you age, so working it definitely is a good idea!
👉🏾 Stretch out your upper body. You might even feel the results all the way down to your hips. This is so important if you sit a lot.
👉🏾 Relieve shoulder pain. This position can help put your shoulders into proper alignment and stretch/strengthen them.

🤩 Are you up for giving this a shot!? Bonus points if you share a pic ... and be sure to let us know how long you hang on for!

🍱 How many times a week do you eat out?

😲 Did you know that when you eat out at a restaurant (or order takeout) ...

You can end up eating almost all of your day’s calories in ONE MEAL?

🍽 Plus, studies show you take in more saturated fat, overall fat, and sodium than you would if you ate at home!

👉🏾 That’s why this week your challenge is to EAT AT HOME – with actual meals you make yourself!

⚡A few shocking facts: the average fast-food order comes in at between 1,100-1,200 calories.

That’s a HUGE chunk of your recommended daily intake, which for women ranges from 1,600 to 2,400 calories a day, and for men goes from 2,000 to 3,00 calories a day, depending on your size and activity level.

😲 Sit-down restaurant meals have even MORE calories, averaging over 1,300!!!

Take a few minutes to sit down and PLAN your meals for the week, and include leftovers – then get cooking!

💡You’ll be amazed at the difference this can make in how you feel AND your results!

Are you up for the “Home Cooked Meals” Challenge!? I hope you’ll join me. Let me know below.

What’s one meal YOU will be making this week!? Let us know in the comments so we can get some ideas going. :-)

⛑ On International Patient Safety Day, the World Health Organization urges hospital administration and stakeholders to speak up for healthcare workers because when they’re cared for, so are patients!

🤰🏽This year’s theme is safe maternal and newborn care because about 810 women die every day from PREVENTABLE causes related to pregnancy and childbirth that could be avoided with proper care.

👩‍🍼“Act now for safe and respectful childbirth” - this is more significant now than ever because of COVID-19 and medical personnel are working long hours to stop the virus from spreading.

💉If you are a healthcare worker, thank you for your commitment and dedication to saving lives 🙏 For those that aren’t, educate others on how important regular check-ups are with your doctor, especially pre-natal care, to get the help you need for optimal health.

💚 Did you know yesterday was National Celiac Disease Awareness Day? Celiac disease Is an immune reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley.

🩺 About 83% of Americans who have celiac disease are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

❎ 6-10 years is the average amount of time a person waits for the correct diagnosis.

Celiac disease can affect men and women across all ages and races.

🍞As of now, there are no pharmaceutical cures for celiac disease and the existing treatment is a 100% gluten-free diet.

✅ If left untreated, it can lead to additional serious health problems including iron deficiency, osteoporosis, miscarriages, and gall bladder issues, to name a few.

💡 Do you know that new healthy “thing” you’re trying to do more often?

You know, the one that you have to REMEMBER to do? And it feels like an effort to do it?

Well, I want to help make that even easier for you … with a little “hack” that I love and use myself.

👉🏾 It’s called HABIT STACKING. And it’s your challenge for this week!

All you have to do is “stack” your target habit (like taking your vitamins, flossing your teeth, drinking more water, etc.) with something else you normally do every day.

Example: Let’s say you want to start taking a daily vitamin, but you ALWAYS forget!

⭐ Find something you do every morning – eat breakfast, drink coffee, put your coffee cup in the sink/dishwasher.

👉Well … every time you do that daily activity, take your vitamin immediately after!

Believe it or not, if you keep it up, the new habit (taking the vitamin) will become automatic … with a LOT less effort and energy.

🔥 Need a few other ideas?
* Go for a 15-minute walk right after you get home from work.

* Plan tomorrow’s meals immediately after dinner.

* Meditate for 10 minutes right after lunch.

✅What’s ONE habit you want to add to your day … and how can you stack it? Let’s get some ideas going!

🎯And be sure to let us know below if you’re going to commit to the challenge!
