Some fun shots from our Bingo Game last week with ADP! Bingo is a great way for our persons served to connect with friends and win small prizes, like games, novelty items, knick-knacks, and sometimes even essentials.

Our winners took home a frisbee, a board game, stickers, and more. We love seeing the joy in those moments!

This fall, we launched our Open Doors campaign to support the more than 400 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who participate in our programs. From paid employment to volunteer service, our persons served are making a meaningful impact across Orange County — contributing over 70,000 hours of work and 3,300 hours of volunteer service this past year alone.

Your support helps us expand access to community-based programs, employment opportunities, specialized services, and much more. It takes more than compassion to create joy: it takes resources. Every dollar helps us create meaningful experiences for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities: community outings, shared meals, art workshops, and moments of connection that become cherished memories. Every gift opens doors to learning, connection, and a deeper sense of belonging.

We wrapped up summer at the Hive with a scrapbook day, capturing memories and creativity! Using Instax film, printed photos, and scrapbook supplies, participants created pages full of summer memories, from community outings to everyday moments.

These experiences wouldn’t be possible without the generous support and donations from our community. We’re so grateful for your support, and we had the best time scrapbooking together!

We wrapped up DSP Appreciation Week last week with this fun highlight from our DSP, Augie, at DTAC Pala!

Augie is the kind of teammate who makes you feel seen, supported, and ready to take on the day. His lively energy and genuine care for the people we serve help make DTAC Pala feel like the family it is. As Adam says in the video, Augie is a big part of what makes this program so special.

To Augie and to all our incredible DSPs: thank you for the joy, dedication, and connection you bring to Vocational Visions. We appreciate you every day, and we hope this week was filled with moments that reminded you just how valued you are.

As DSP Appreciation Week almost comes to an end, let’s introduce our Supported Employment Program DSP Highlight: Janet!

Janet describes her introduction to Vocational Visions as a “meant-to-be” moment. A friend told her about a local job fair, and she nearly missed it, but remembered just in time! That decision led her to a role where she’s been making a meaningful impact since July 2023.

As a Job Coach, Janet focuses on uplifting others. She believes that when people feel valued and heard, they thrive. Her goal each day is to be a bright spot, someone participants can trust, open up to, and feel safe around. She sees every person as capable.

She also finds joy in her coworkers, saying the SE team is full of people who genuinely care about the community and about how participants feel about themselves.

Outside of work, Janet enjoys mission work in Africa, swimming, and caring for her fur babies.

Her DSP journey in 3 words: Purpose. Uplifting. Big-hearted.

Today, we’re proud to feature Darwin from the MDS program for DSP Appreciation Week! Darwin has been part of Vocational Visions for nearly two years, having found the organization online while searching for opportunities close to home. He joined the MDS program as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and quickly became a valued member of the team.

“It’s easy for me. I don’t have a hard time. I like this type of job,” Darwin shares. He enjoys helping our persons served achieve their goals, seeing their progress, and being part of an empowering environment. One of his favorite parts of the role is going out into the community with participants.

Darwin brings a quiet confidence to his work. His supervisors appreciate his strong work ethic and the care he brings to every interaction. He is especially humble, dependable, and always ready to lend a hand; these are qualities that have earned him the respect and appreciation of his team.

After almost two years, Darwin continues to enjoy his role as a DSP. We’re proud to recognize Darwin for the impact he makes every day. He hopes to continue growing with MDS for many years to come. Thank you, Darwin, and happy DSP Appreciation Week to you!
