Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. Solace For Hope is committed to raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and its impact on our communities. Today we honor and remember the hundreds of thousands of lives who have been lost, and their grieving families. It's important to reach out to grieving families, offer your support, and most importantly, remember and say their loved one's name. It means more than you know.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times more potent than he**in. Just a small amount can be lethal.
Here are a few critical facts about fentanyl to remember:
A Lethal Dose: It only takes two milligrams of fentanyl to be lethal. That tiny amount is equivalent in size to just a few grains of sand or salt – almost impossible to see with the naked eye.
Overdose Crisis: Fentanyl is a primary driver of the overdose crisis in the U.S. Many people who overdose on fentanyl don’t even know they’ve taken it.
It’s Everywhere: Fentanyl is regularly mixed into other illegal drugs, including he**in, co***ne, and methamphetamine due to its extreme potency. Drug manufacturers also press it into counterfeit pills made to look like legitimate prescription drugs such as Oxycodone, Xanax, or Adderall.
Save a Life: Narcan (Naloxone) is a life-saving medication that can be rapidly administered to reverse an opioid overdose.
Remember this simple rule: NEVER take a pill that was not prescribed to you by a doctor and dispensed by a licensed pharmacy.
Fentanyl is poisoning our nation; our communities; our families. We urge everyone to talk to your loved ones about the risks, keep Narcan (Naloxone) in your medicine cabinet or emergency kits.
If you are in need of grief support, and connecting with a community that understands, Solace For Hope is here for you. You are not alone.
