As we say goodbye to 2024 and hello to 2025, we may experience several emotions. Listen to each emotion and savor what they are trying to convey. After the listening party is over, set your thoughts on what you want 2025 to look like and what you want to accomplish. How do those emotions feel? Are you ready to thrive in 2025? If you’re ready, give me a thumbs up! 👍🏻

Next journal prompt! I want you to think back to when you were a child. Many of us as children think about what we want to be when we wanna grow up. I wanted to be some sort of scientist because I found science to be fascinating and rich with things to learn about. In a way, I did become a scientist, but not in the way I originally thought I would. That has been life-changing for me and when I look back, I often think of my younger self and how wise I was to realize that I knew what I wanted I just didn’t know in what form. What will this journal prompt bring for you?

Sorry that I haven’t been around for a while. I’ve embarked on a new adventure (look at that serious face)! I’ve decided to go back to school for a second doctorate in clinical psychology. The reason behind my decision is the need for more accessible testing for individuals that do not options. Not everyone has access to insurance, testing providers, or income to pay out of pocket for testing. Testing is an important part of treatment and should be available to everyone.
I’ll be posting more soon!

Ever wonder about the different levels of autism? Check out this infographic to learn more about level 1.
High functioning and low functioning are no longer used terms. Instead, support needs are recognized, which means that support needs can vary from level 1 through to level 3; however, it is crucial to understand that an autistic individual's support needs can change from moment to moment. In some circumstances, an individual with low support needs may need more support than usual.

It's essential to remember that autistic individuals are on a spectrum of needs and do not fit into a box because the diagnostic criteria emphasize concrete pathologizing criteria.

It takes a lot of courage for an autistic individual to share their diagnosis with others due to the repercussions it can produce. Autistic individuals are at a higher risk of being victims of crime. They are sexually abused at a high rate compared to neurotypical individuals. Autistic individuals are taken advantage of more frequently because they are more trusting. School and work settings can be a place of hostility because many autistic individuals are seen as incapable of completing tasks like their neurotypical peers.

If an individual shares their diagnosis with you, appreciate them and the trust they are giving you!

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone is being diagnosed with autism. Autism awareness has increased with social media, which has led more individuals to evaluate whether they would like to seek testing. This does not mean that more individuals are diagnosed; it means that the number is proportionate to those who are being tested. That means if 100 individuals a year were being tested in the past and 20 were diagnosed with autism, today, if 1,000 individuals are tested and 200 are diagnosed, it's the same as it was in the past.
