As a dietitian, I talk a lot about caffeine and energy drinks. Stories like this are a painful reminder of why moderation is key — especially for teens.
The recommended allowance for teens is 100 mg of caffeine per day.

Many energy drinks have 200mg+ in one can — double a teen’s daily max. Add coffee, soda, or pre-workout, and it adds up fast.

This isn’t about fear. It’s about awareness.

Teen limit for caffeine is 100mg per day. One Alani Nu, one Celsius, one Bang… most are 200mg or more in a single can. That’s already double the max.
The medical examiner in the Weslaco case cited cardiomyopathy caused by excessive caffeine consumption. I’m not here to diagnose or speculate. I’m here to say: know the dose, know the risk, and if you’re under 18, these drinks aren’t recommended at all.
