Last week, at the Johnson County Su***de Prevention Coalition, Gabe Hawkins from Johnson County Department of Health and Environment shared our community’s annual su***de data at the 2025 Report Out. These data help us better understand trends, identify gaps, and strengthen prevention efforts across Johnson County.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community. While numbers can’t tell the whole story, they help guide where connection, care, and support are needed most.

📊 Read this week’s Mental Health Moment for key findings, what they mean, and how you can get involved in su***de prevention:

You made it through. 🌅

The weeks around the winter solstice bring the shortest days and longest nights of the year. From mid-November through late January, reduced daylight can affect energy, mood, and motivation for many people.

If this season has felt heavy, you’re not alone. Small steps like getting outside during daylight, staying connected, and checking in with yourself can make a difference.

If you need support or want to talk with someone, help is available 24/7.

Winter weather is on the horizon this weekend. While we can’t control the snow, temperatures, or road conditions, we can control how we prepare and take care of ourselves.

Consider dressing in layers, checking on neighbors or pets, stocking emergency supplies, and adjusting plans as needed. Focus on what’s within your control—and be gentle with yourself as plans change.
