🏀 Selection Sunday meets Self-Care Sunday.

As March Madness brackets are revealed today, we’re thinking about a different kind of starting lineup: your mental health starting five.

Our picks:
😴 Sleep
🚶 Movement
⏸ Taking breaks
🎵 Music or hobbies
🤝 Connection

And remember, a strong team always has a deep bench. Substitutes like time outside, deep breathing, journaling, hydration, healthy meals, and screen breaks can help support your mental health too.

Just like basketball, taking care of your mental health isn’t about being perfect—it’s about building a team of habits and supports that help you stay in the game.

🥧 Happy Pi Day! 🥧

Today (3/14) we celebrate π — the mathematical constant that goes on forever (3.14159…). Just like Pi, taking care of your mental health is something that continues every day.

However you celebrate today (maybe with a slice of pie!) remember that caring for your well-being is worth making time for.

A decade of supporting veterans in our community. 🇺🇸

Johnson County recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of Veterans Treatment Court, a program that helps veterans involved in the justice system connect with treatment, mentorship, and support as they work toward recovery and stability.

The program brings together partners across the county (including Johnson County Mental Health Center, the courts, the VA, and community mentors) to ensure veterans receive the care and accountability they need to move forward.

We’re proud to be part of this collaborative effort to support those who have served.

😴 Feeling a little more tired than usual this week?

You’re not alone. Many people are still adjusting to the time change after Daylight Saving Time.

Today is World Sleep Day, and this year’s theme is “Sleep Well, Live Better.” Quality sleep plays an important role in both physical and mental health. It helps improve mood, concentration, memory, and overall well-being.

If your sleep schedule feels off this week, a few small habits can help:
✨ Keep a consistent sleep schedule
📵 Limit screen time before bed
☀️ Get some daylight and movement during the day
🧘 Create a relaxing bedtime routine

Taking care of your sleep is one way to take care of your mental health.

Is name-calling happening in your home? You’re not alone.

Name-calling is one of the most frequently searched parenting topics on Behavior Checker, a free tool that helps parents respond to common child behaviors in healthy ways.

While it can be frustrating, name-calling is often a sign that a child is still learning how to manage big emotions and communicate effectively. With calm guidance and clear expectations, these moments can become opportunities to teach empathy, respect, and kinder ways to express feelings.

This week’s Mental Health Moment shares simple strategies parents and caregivers can use, including:
• Helping children understand the impact of their words
• Teaching calming strategies before reacting
• Encouraging apologies and repair
• Reinforcing positive language

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of women everywhere.

International Women’s Day is also a reminder that progress happens when we show up for one another. This year’s theme, Give To Gain, highlights the power of generosity, collaboration, and collective support. When we invest our time, knowledge, advocacy, and care into uplifting women and girls, everyone benefits.

At its core, supporting women’s wellbeing also means supporting mental health. Setting boundaries, using your voice, practicing kindness toward yourself, and building strong communities are all part of creating a world where women can thrive.

When women thrive, communities thrive.

✨ Happy International Women’s Day 💜

Today is National Dentists Day, a time to recognize the dentists, hygienists, and dental teams who help keep our communities healthy.

Oral health is closely connected to mental health. Research shows that mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and chronic stress can affect oral health in several ways, including changes in daily hygiene habits, dry mouth caused by medications, and increased risk of gum disease and tooth decay. At the same time, oral health problems such as chronic dental pain or missing teeth can affect confidence, social connections, and overall well-being.

In other words, caring for your teeth is also part of caring for your whole self.

Today, we’re grateful for the dental professionals who help support both physical and emotional well-being through prevention, treatment, and education.

Thank you to the dentists and dental teams making a difference in our community. 🦷💙

Friendly reminder: Daylight Saving Time starts this weekend. ⏰

That means we lose an hour of sleep when we “spring forward” on Sunday.

If you’re feeling a little extra tired or dramatic about it... you’re not alone. Small schedule shifts can affect sleep and energy levels, so give yourself a little grace this weekend.

🌷 Try going to bed a little earlier Saturday night
☀️ Get some sunlight Sunday morning
☕ And maybe plan for an extra cup of coffee

March is Social Work Month, a time to recognize the powerful and often unseen work happening every day in our communities.

Social workers uplift hope when people are struggling, defend dignity when systems fall short, and help transform lives through compassion, advocacy, and care. Their work happens in therapy rooms, crisis responses, community programs, and behind the scenes in ways many people never see.

This year’s theme, Uplift. Defend. Transform., captures the heart of social work and the impact social workers make in mental health spaces every day.

Take a moment to read this week’s Mental Health Moment and reflect on the incredible role social workers play in our community:
