Then the Seer (Self) abides in its own nature.
You are the true seer. You are not the body nor the mind. You are the Knower or Seer. You always see your mind and body acting in front of you. You know that the mind creates thoughts; it distinguishes and desires. The Seer knows that, but is not involved in it.

Citta is our heart mind, our outer and inner psyche, and the primary place of interest in the Yoga sutras. Our heart mind sits between the ever changing outside world and an inner light of awareness. This inner light never changes, and it represents pure unconditional love.

Sutra Reflection:
Citta — The Heart-Mind
Heart mind filled of consciousness. Citta is our heart mind, our outer and inner psyche, and the primary place of interest in the Yoga sutras.

Our heart mind sits between the ever changing outside world and the inner light of awareness. The inner light never changes, and it represents pure, unconditional love. A heart mind soiled with mental emotional baggage, prevents the inner light from shining through, causing us to act or react, according to our deep habitual patterns of behavior.

As the heart mind is clarified more light can shine through and our actions become more loving and positive towards others and ourselves. One of the core aspects of yoga is the process of clarifying the heart mind so external objects are perceived accurately and truthfully.

🕉️ Atha Yoga Anusasanam

Atha = Now.
Yoga = Union.
Anusasanam = Instruction or exposition.

Atha Yoga Anusasanam — “Now, the instruction on yoga begins.”

Anusasanam means exposition or instruction because it is not mere philosophy that Patanjali is about to expound, but rather direct instruction on how to practice yoga. Mere philosophy will not satisfy us. We cannot reach the goal by words alone. Without practice, nothing can be achieved.

Ideally, we want to learn and are able to carve out time in our schedules — time to study, to practice, and to maintain a regular, consistent rhythm long enough for the knowledge we seek to truly sink in. A heart-mind that is fresh and open absorbs information like a sponge. Repetition reinforces what we learn, creating patterns within the heart-mind.

Commitment holds a solid, grounding energy — it provides stability and structure to our lives. Deciding to learn and experience what yoga truly is requires diligence and effort, which will undoubtedly yield fruit.

Over time, yoga becomes a way of life — one designed to develop and refine our body, mind, and heart, along with our thoughts, words, and actions. 🌿
