Cardiac calcium scoring is one of the most advanced methods to detect heart disease in its initial stages. Using CT imaging, the procedure identifies calcified plaque present in your coronary arteries — the earliest indicator of heart disease. Assessing your results, our radiologists will provide a cardiac calcium score based on the presence and degree of calcium in the arteries of your heart. Your score provides you and your healthcare provider with valuable information about the likelihood of future coronary events, allowing time for interventions with a heart disease diagnosis. One of the best ways for our radiologists to interpret any abnormalities on your scans is to have prior scans to compare them to. Whether it’s previous mammograms or MRIs from an old knee injury, having your prior scan records is an important way to confirm what — if any — changes have occurred. Not having your priors for comparison may delay the reading of your new scan because we’ll need to request them after your visit. One thing you can do to keep things moving smoothly is to proactively ask for your radiology records from any previous providers or imaging centers before your scan at Advanced Imaging. This statewide program provides free or reduced cost mammograms, clinical breast exams and Pap tests to qualified women between the ages of 21 and 64 who meet certain income guidelines with or without insurance. Partnership Health Center in Missoula is our regional contact, serving All Nations Health Center and Missoula and Ravalli counties. From scheduling appointments and reminders to understanding tests, they will help you the whole way. To get started or ask any questions, please call Colleen, Senior Community Health Specialist, at (406) 258-4167. After enrollment, women can choose from a variety of local providers to have their screenings done, including Advanced Imaging for mammograms.

A study by UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center found that women who received a false-positive mammogram result that required additional imaging or biopsy were less likely to return for that follow-up screening. False-positive results are common and occur when an abnormality appears on a mammogram but further testing reveals there is no cancer. We understand that these call-backs can cause significant emotional anxiety and also may have financial implications, but your health is too important to ignore. At Advanced Imaging, we encourage you to prioritize yourself and always follow up with any recommended additional screening. The clarity could save your life.

Don’t miss "The Little Things That Run the World,” a Missoula-made film by High Plains Films, tomorrow night at The Roxy Theater.
