Live in a Body you Love

This has been the tagline of my business for the better part of ten years, but what it means to me and how it guides me has shifted over that time.

When I was living and working in Florida, LOVE was the primary focus, as my practice was largely focused on supporting women to having a loving relationship with food and body. Improving body image and emotional eating were our primary goals.

When I moved to Montana and stepped back into clinical practice, I combined my skill set in NLP and Eating Psychology with my naturopathic path, and I began to focus on hormones and metabolic healing. BODY took the lead as my patients came with the goal of losing weight, increasing energy, and improving mood.

Now, in my own life and in my practice, the focus is shifting to the word LIVE.

I’m obsessed with the idea of increasing the experience of Aliveness and Vitality.

As a Naturopath, I’m still looking at the whole picture, so emotional eating, body image, hormones, and metabolism still play an integral role, but the focus is on increasing the experience of life.

White knuckling it, restriction, and even bio-hacking measures that leave you feeling isolated and alone won’t cut it! You are here to live well in a body that is energetic, resilient, and full of vitality.

Stress disrupting your cycle?⁣

This is surprising common so don’t worry, you’re not broken!⁣

Your brain, your adrenals, and your ovaries are intimately connected, which means that an acute stress - such as illness, a financial stress, a huge work project that’s keeping you up at night, worry about your kids, etc - can disrupt your cycle. ⁣

Usually this corrects itself without intervention… assuming the stress resolved. ⁣

If the stress does not resolve, you may find yourself with irregular cycles. This is why adrenal support is regularly a first line natural therapy for irregular me**es. ⁣

Celebrate EVERY win!⁣

This is my pup giving me a high five as I come up from the basement. ⁣

Even small wins are worth celebrating. In fact, a benefit of clearly defined goals is that you can celebrate progress. ⁣

When your goals aren’t defined, the carrot can move forward with every step, leaving your a perpetual pursuit of “better.” ⁣

If you can convince people to oppress themselves, you don’t need to actively suppress them. ⁣

This is what we have done with diet culture. ⁣

Don’t get me wrong… I’m not aiming in any way to minimize the many types of oppression alive and well in our culture, but this is the oppression I know. ⁣

This is the oppression that tells me I am too big or too small, too old or too young, too ugly or even too beautiful. It is the oppression that tells me that whatever is inside of me is wrong and should be shaped and molded into something else before it is acceptable and worthy of showing or sharing. It is the oppression that silences the voice of truth, beauty, and goodness. ⁣

Why is diet culture such an effective oppressor?⁣

If you are human, you eat. Unlike drugs, gambling, alcohol and other addictions, it is unavoidable. ⁣

Try as you might, you simple can’t compartmentalize your pain and walk away from it forever. Every day, every bite, you must face your relationship to food. Everywhere you go, your body comes with you, so you must face your relationship to body. ⁣

For years (maybe a decade), there’s been some warring inside of me. ⁣

I am a thinker. I am a dreamer. ⁣

And these are just a few of the notebooks that contain the scribblings of my ideas. The green one is almost 10 yrs old. ⁣

There is striking similarity between everything written on all of these pages. I have cared about the same things for a long time - vitality and the pursuit of peace around food and body image. ⁣

And I am often terrified to put the thoughts and dreams into consistent action. ⁣

I let the fear that someone reading my words, witnessing a part of my heart, will snicker and judge stop me from letting the words out. ⁣

But over the last few weeks, I have felt the tension growing inside of me again. I’m tired of warring with it. I’m going to let it crack me open and pour out. ⁣

Within the hour Everett and I are departing for a one week camping adventure. We’re attending a primitive skills gathering in Teton ID. ⁣

I have no idea what we’re getting ourselves into, but we’re going to make the best of it. ⁣

This is the first time I will be completely disconnected from work - no checking emails or messages, no touching base with Paula. Just letting go. ⁣

12 years ago. My last yoga practice before giving birth. ⁣

Pregnancy was truly transformational for me. It was the first time I had the felt sense that my body was meant for something other than conforming to a particular pair of jeans. I let go of the outward shape and reveled in the internal experience. ⁣

So grateful to have had the support of Stephanie Soderblom, who told me - as often as I needed to hear it - that my body already held the deep wisdom needed and could be trusted. ⁣

12 years later, I look back at pictures of my pregnant belly and then into the eyes of my growing child whenever I need the reminder that wisdom comes from a place deep within. ⁣

I made a human! I nourished this human. I can do whatever hard thing is in front of me today. I can trust my body. ⁣

I show you the parts I think you’ll accept while hiding the parts I think you’ll reject. ⁣

I mold my appearance into something that may be regarded as beautiful while denying the wild beauty that exists within me. ⁣

I celebrate my strength and minimize my vulnerabilities. ⁣

This denial of self is the loneliness we feel. Too often we carry its enormous weight out of fear that our only two choices are to abandon ourselves or risk being abandoned by others. Lonely or alone? ⁣

Can you feel the pain in your chest as you sit with those options?⁣

As I began to realize the extent to which I’d been living my life as if those were my only options, I wanted to crumble. Fortunately, on the other side of breakdown is breakthrough, and I began to imagine a third option. I felt the urge to build a home for togetherness, the desire to create circles in which more of me (maybe even all of me) could safely show up. ⁣

This is a central part of what I am starting to build. My future work involves intimate circles where healing can be done in community that dissolves the experience of loneliness by building a home that welcomes the all of who you are. ⁣

Our Story

Hi! I’m Dr. Dawn Dalili. For over a year, Dr. Elizabeth Stegmaier and I have been working to create a brand new approach to women’s health.

We call it, “The Feminine Method.”

Unlike the conventional approach to women’s medicine, The Feminine Method recognizes your unique goals, needs and challenges; honors intuition and the desire to experience freedom; is built on connection & community, not information, rules, and restrictions; and prioritizes healing over masking symptoms.
