Headwaters Hot Yoga is happy to announce a change in ownership at the studio. Cheryl spent the last 8 years teaching, embracing and growing the yoga community.

As life changes we are happy to keep the ownership of the studio in the family.
Catie has been practicing at the studio since 2003. She became a teacher this last year and is over joyed to be able to take over ownership of the studio.
We all look forward to see all in the hotroom!

๐Ÿ’ง Posture Focus ๐Ÿ’ง IHP ๐Ÿ’ง Mountain Climbers ๐Ÿ’ง

Mountain Climbers are great at targeting the core to build strength but they help with shoulder stabilization as well.

Here's how:
โ›ฐ Bring hands under your shoulders and tuck your toes under to come into high plank.
โ›ฐ Check-in on the shoulders, bringing them down away from the ears. A slight bend is taken in the elbows.
โ›ฐ Engage your core and glutes.
โ›ฐ Drive your right knee forward into the chest. Return your foot back, coming into plank.
โ›ฐ Repeat on the left side, bringing your knee to chest, then return to plank.
โ›ฐ Repeat for at least 10 reps on either side.

๐Ÿ’ฅModification if wrists are sensitive is to come onto the elbows and bring the knees up.

Ever find yourself standing in Tree in the middle of the day, or is it just us? Maybe at the kitchen sink or while chatting with a coworker? ๐Ÿคช

When you find yourself lacking inspiration or just feeling stuck, moving the body can help. Stepping away from the desk to walk around, settling into a posture for a few minutes, or taking some deep breaths can improve mindset so quickly.

Next time you feel stuck, give one of these standing poses a try!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Half Moon Pose will realign the spine and improve the slouchy posture caused by sitting at a desk for too long.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Eagle Pose relaxes tight shoulders and neck, pulling the shoulders back to where they belong.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Standing Head to Knee Pose will bring you back to one singular focus to increase concentration and patience.

Teacher Carrie is a big morning person who loves teaching the 6:30 am Quickie classes to get your day started right. She loves seeing all the motivation from the early risers that get up and make it to the studio.

"It feels great to give people the best start to their day."

Carrie completed her teacher training with Sterling Yoga Works in 2015, traveling to Mexico for a month of complete yoga immersion. That environment was supportive and nurturing, giving her a very memorable experience.

Teaching at Headwaters has been a wonderful setting to teach in for Carrie, enjoying the community and inspiring teachers.

๐Ÿ’™ Self-care is a term that often comes with a negative connotation, one that we are being selfish. We challenge that thought.

The self-care practices that we do make us fulfilled, content, and satisfied with ourselves. These practices are essential for our own health and wellbeing, and also for those around us. When we do not take care of ourselves and our own needs, we cannot take care of others. When we are happy in our lives, that is when we can give to others.

The saying "you can't pour from an empty cup" is so true. Your cup must be full before you can give anything. Otherwise, you are giving out things that you don't have. This will lead to burn out and maybe even resentment towards others.

Prioritizing your wellbeing is not selfish; it is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself.

๐Ÿ’งPosture Focus๐Ÿ’ง 26+2 ๐Ÿ’งWind Removing ๐Ÿ’ง

Wind Removing Pose is like a gentle massage for your internal organs that helps with proper digestion.

To get into Wind Removing Pose, we start in Savasana.

โœ… From Savasana, bend the right knee toward the chest and interlock all ten fingers over the shin, just below the knee.
โœ… With the right foot relaxed, pull the knee out-down-and-in toward the right shoulder while avoiding the rib cage to compress the lower abdomen.
โœ… Keep the elbows close to the body; both shoulders are relaxed, touching the floor.
โœ… Pull the knee continuously and smoothly toward the right shoulder.
โœ… Tuck the chin into the chest, keeping the head on the floor.

The left calf stays touching the floor, with the foot and toes relaxed. Every vertebra of the spine is completely flat on the floor (or headed in that direction). You should feel a slight pressure in the abdomen and hip joint.

Remember to breathe deeply into your belly and hold in this position!

Gently lower your right leg to the floor and repeat with the left leg.

For part three of Wind Removing Pose, bring both knees into the chest. Bring both legs up and reach for the elbows. If you can't reach the elbows, grasp the forearms. Keep your whole spine relaxed on the floor.

If you value efficient moves in your strength-training workouts, mountain climbers are a perfect fit. They are a compound exercise, meaning they work several joints and muscle groups simultaneously. As you perform the move, your shoulders, arms, and chest work to stabilize your upper body while your core stabilizes the rest of your body. The steady running (OR WALKING) motion targets your glutes and leg muscles, including your quadriceps and hamstrings.

Frog squats are a staple in any Hot Pilates class, so itโ€™s important that you know how to do them properly and get the best results from them to help strengthen your legs, glutes and even your back muscles.

Next time youโ€™re in class, focus on these pointers to get maximum benefits from your Frog Squats

๐Ÿธ Start out by placing your feet wider than your hips
๐Ÿธ Turn your toes outwards
๐Ÿธ Hinge your hips back
๐Ÿธ Pull your belly in nice and tight
๐Ÿธ Roll your shoulders back and down your spine
๐Ÿธ Bring your hands to center
๐Ÿธ Squat down, as you come back up, squeeze your glutes, press your hips forward
๐Ÿธ Pull your belly in, keep your chest lifted and your shoulders rolled back

Focus your breath with your movement, and inhale when you squat down, exhale as you come up.

Say to yourself: ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ I Observe the Thoughts in My Mind

Let's be honest; there is a HUGE misconception that meditation looks a certain way and is done in a specific position.

โŒ So not true!

โœ… It's okay to have thoughts!
โœ… It's okay to be seated, lying down, or even walking!

Meditation's purpose is to quiet the busy thoughts BUT not with the expectation that the mind is EMPTY.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Tip: As thoughts come up, acknowledge them but do not attach yourself to them. You can not do your grocery shopping, pay your bills, or call your mother during meditation, so LET IT GO! And be okay with that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ”† Student Spotlight: Carmen ๐Ÿ”†

Since starting yoga, Headwaters student Carmen says that she's grown in so many ways in her life. She feels more disciplined, has become a better listener, and accepts what life brings.

"So much has changed for me, and my practice at Headwaters is a huge part of it all."

Carmen's favorite postures to practice are Supta Virasana (Fixed Firm) and Ustrasana (Camel Pose), both challenging and powerful backbends.

To anyone thinking of trying a class with us, Carmen encourages you to try it. She says while it might be scary, it's worth it!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Half Moon Pose will realign the spine and improve the slouchy posture caused by sitting at a desk for too long.

๐ŸŒ“ We love Half Moon Pose because it warms up your spine (hence why itโ€™s part of the โ€˜warm-upโ€™) for your yoga class! Itโ€™s the only posture in the warm-up series that moves and stretches your spine in every direction: front, back, right side, and left side.

The main things to remember next time youโ€™re in class to get the maximum benefit from Half Moon Pose:
๐ŸŒœReach up with your arms to create as much length as you can
๐ŸŒœLock your elbows and squeeze them in towards each other
๐ŸŒœHeels stay together, building a stable base
๐ŸŒœMaintain length in the body to avoid collapsing the low back

Always think of lifting and stretching yourself in all the directions of Half Moon.

These three simple movements can be done absolutely anywhere - at work, home, or even in the car (if it's parked!!)
