🚨 APTA Advocacy Update: Protecting the DPT as a Professional Degree 🚨

The U.S. Department of Education’s RISE Committee recently proposed a very narrow definition of “professional degree” — one that excludes physical therapy, nursing, OT, SLP, audiology, and more.

This could limit DPT student federal loans to $20,500/year with a lifetime cap of $100,000, creating an inequitable tiered system across health professions.

APTA is pushing back hard. They’ve submitted multiple letters, partnered with national coalitions, and are preparing for the 2026 public comment period.

Our future PTs deserve recognition as the professional providers they are — and access to the education funding required to become them.

Stay tuned for action alerts and ways you can raise your voice.

Government Shutdown Update

The federal government shutdown has officially ended. Medicare telehealth coverage and rural payment support have been extended through January 30, 2026.

In addition, any telehealth payments that were placed on hold since October 1 will be paid retroactively.

This is welcome news for providers and patients across rural Montana.
