🧠💙 Have you noticed your child feeling more anxious, withdrawn, or overwhelmed lately?

Kids experience stress, big emotions, and behavioral changes just like adults do and when those feelings go unaddressed, they can impact school, relationships, and confidence over time. Supporting children’s mental health early helps build resilience, coping skills, and emotional balance that last well beyond childhood.

Here are a few ways families can support children’s mental well-being at home and in daily life:

✨ Keep routines consistent whenever possible, predictability helps kids feel safe and grounded.
✨ Encourage movement and play, which can reduce stress and support emotional regulation.
✨ Create space to talk, even short check ins help kids feel heard without pressure.
✨ Notice changes in mood, sleep, focus, or behavior that last more than a few weeks.
✨ Ask for support early, mental health concerns are easier to manage when addressed sooner.

Support doesn’t only happen at home. Access to care matters, too. Pediatric behavioral health services, including telehealth visits, can help families connect with licensed professionals when in person appointments feel hard to manage due to schedules, transportation, or childcare needs.

Mental health is also strengthened through connection and community. Shared activities, time outdoors, and opportunities to move and decompress together, like community events, can play a meaningful role in reducing stress and supporting emotional well-being for both kids and parents.

💙 Caring for children’s mental health takes many forms, and support is available when you need it.

💙 Black Maternal Health Week may have passed but the work and the conversation must continue.

Black mothers continue to face higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth, often due to systemic barriers inside healthcare itself and awareness remains critical year round.

Recently, the Defender Network highlighted this ongoing crisis and the voices working to address it, including Dr. Erica Giwa, Medical Director of OB/GYN at Legacy Community Health. Dr. Giwa continues to advocate for safer, more responsive care for Black mothers across Houston, reminding us that most pregnancy related deaths are preventable when concerns are heard and acted on early.

At Legacy, this work shows up through prenatal navigation, postpartum support, and care models designed to stay with mothers before, during, and after pregnancy, especially during the often overlooked postpartum period.

If you missed Black Maternal Health Week coverage, this is a meaningful moment to pause, reflect, and learn more about what’s happening and what’s possible.

💉💙 Healthy kids start with trusted care and timely protection.

This World Immunization Week, we’re highlighting how routine childhood vaccines help protect children, and the communities they grow up in. Staying on schedule with immunizations helps prevent illnesses that can be especially serious for young children.

Trusted care teams, including pediatric providers and pharmacists, partner with parents to make vaccine decisions feel clear, informed, and supported. When families have access to trusted information and care, children are better protected.

At Legacy Community Health, we’re here to support families with education, access, and care they can rely on, so parents can feel confident about their child’s health.

💙💉 Protecting your child’s health starts with prevention.

During World Immunization Week, we’re reminding families that vaccines are one of the most effective ways to protect children from serious, preventable illnesses, from infancy through the school years.

Vaccinations help children stay healthy so they can grow, learn, and thrive. For many families, caring for children means balancing home traditions, routine checkups, and guidance from trusted healthcare providers, and vaccines are an essential part of that care.

At Legacy Community Health, our pediatric teams work closely with families to answer questions, track immunization schedules, and make sure children stay up to date year round.

💙👶 Supporting moms, babies, and families, together.

Legacy was proud to join the March of Dimes Mama Talks event once again, connecting with families and sharing resources that support healthy starts and strong futures. During the event, we welcomed 34 families and distributed essential items to help meet every day needs.

Thanks to our team and generous partners, families received:

🛍️ 200 bags of shelf stable food,
🧸 200 bags of diapers and wipes, and
💜 100+ additional packages of diapers and wipes, donated by the Delta Sigma Theta Bay Area Houston Alumnae Chapter.

Beyond supplies, our team shared information about Legacy’s clinics and programs designed to support parents and caregivers, including:

✅ Early Childhood Development (ECD) classes focused on children’s growth and milestones

To our donors, partners, and collaborators: your support makes these connections possible and helps build healthier, more resilient futures across the communities we serve.

Helping Kids Stay Healthy With Diabetes During Kidney Month and Beyond

Kids living with diabetes work hard every day to stay healthy, and Legacy Community Health is here to support them and their families every step of the way.

March is National Kidney Month, which is an important reminder that caring for diabetes also means caring for kidney health. Kidneys help keep the body balanced, and healthy habits can make a big difference for children managing diabetes.

Healthy habits that support diabetes and kidney health:
• Eating balanced meals and snacks
• Drinking plenty of water
• Staying active and playing every day
• Keeping up with doctor visits and screenings
• Asking questions, our pediatric teams are here to help

Legacy’s pediatric providers offer guidance, education, and care to help families manage diabetes without missing out on the joy of childhood.

You’re not alone, we’re here to help your child stay healthy, confident, and supported all year long.

This School-Based Health Care Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the impact of bringing care directly onto school campuses.

With clinics in 39 YES Prep, KIPP, and Galena Park ISD schools, our teams make it easier for students to stay healthy and stay in class.

To our Legacy in-school superheroes: thank you for supporting students so they can stay well to learn well.

🌟 Celebrating 10 Years of School-Based Health Care! 🌟

We recently joined YES Prep Public Schools to celebrate a decade of partnership and a decade of helping students stay healthy and ready to learn. And with February marking School‑Based Health Care Month, the timing couldn’t have been better to honor this work. 💙

For the past 10 years, our SBHC clinics have helped students get the care they need, right on campus. From checkups and vaccines to behavioral health support and chronic care management, our goal is simple: keep kids healthy, in school, and ready to learn.

By removing barriers like transportation, scheduling challenges, and cost, school-based care makes staying healthy easier for students and families across Houston. 💙

We’re also grateful for the community support that helps fuel this work. Last fall, our Frank Billingsley Golf Classic raised a record-breaking $500,000 to support student health programs, strengthening and expanding services for Houston area youth. ⛳💙 And yes, the next tournament is coming this October, stay tuned!
